The Nazis took control of German youth organizations and education. They abolished trade unions and established the German Labor Front, led by Robert Ley, to control the workforce. The Hitler Youth was established in 1936 and grew rapidly to indoctrinate German children in Nazi ideology and prepare them for military service. Schools were also used to spread Nazi propaganda through new subjects and censorship of textbooks. This extensive indoctrination of German youth helped the Nazis consolidate power with little resistance.
