Theodore Roosevelt went on a final expedition to the Amazon Rainforest before his death. He contracted jungle fever on this trip and asked to be left in the jungle to die so that the others could survive, but his son refused. All four of Roosevelt's sons fought in World War 1, and his youngest son was killed, which many believe contributed to Roosevelt's declining health. On January 5, 1919, Roosevelt died in his sleep from a coronary embolism at the age of 60. His funeral in Oyster Bay, New York was attended by many dignitaries and marked the end of a transformative presidency.
