I workedwith6 yearolds.It wasa verychallengingjobsince theygetveryeasilydistracted.In
PrimoCapraro School classesare 75 minuteslong,whichis insane forstudentsthatyoung.I
workedwithcutand paste activities,colouringandIboughtstickerssoI couldgive themone
every time theyfinishedandactivitycorrectly.
I gave short explanationsandrepeatedthemtwotimes,three if reallyneeded.Iwasveryfriendly
withthe studentsbutI wouldtell themtogoand sitdownif theywere misbehaving.Itriedmy
hardestto singalongand dance to the songstheylike (the hellosongandbye bye song) even
thoughI feltridiculousanduncomfortable doingso.
Theyhad twopuppetscalled“Mr Whiskers”and“PinkyPops”thattheyabsolutelyloveandIused
themto ask studentssome questions,justtomake ita bitmore funfor them.
I thinkI succeeded,theyhadfun,didn’tcomplainaboutanyactivityandtheysucceededin
finishingthem.We createdaverynice bondeventhoughthe time we spentwasveryshort.
I thinkthat raisingmyvoice inorderto have theirattentionwasunnecessary,there are probably
betterthingstodo to getthe attentionIneedwhileexplaining.Notsomuchfor the studentsbut
for mybody.I lefthavinga sore throat andI don’treallythinkthatisnecessaryor evengoodfor
me.I should change that.
Also,singinganddancingwasnotthe deathof me,obviously,butIdon’tlike doingthat.Nexttime
I can thinkof an interactive game oractivitytostart the lesson incircle time.Idon’tthinkit’s
productive todothingswe’re not comfortable withasteachers.There are a lotof options
unexploredandwe shouldtrythemall until one worksaswell forstudentsasforourselves.
I will change twothings,first,I will choose the seatingarrangement.By observingone class,one
can tell whichstudentscan’tsittogether. Ithinkthatwiththe rightseatingarrangement,focus
and attentioncanincrease alot.This wayI won’thave to call on themso muchor raise my voice
as loud.
The other thingI will change ismore aboutmyself,Iwill notdothingsIdon’tfeel comfortable
with.There'sliterallynopointindoingso.It’snotlike dancingandsingingare the onlyways
