Tourism arrivals in Bangladesh have increased steadily from 588,193 in 2012 to over 945,865 in 2016, representing a 45% growth over that period. However, Bangladesh faces some challenges to its tourism industry including a lack of designed tourist destinations, threats to animal survival from overtourism, and vulnerabilities from global warming. A SWOT analysis identified strengths in affordable domestic transport and varied destinations, but also weaknesses in inadequate infrastructure, lack of professional marketing, and low-quality accommodations. Opportunities for growth include more international events and development projects, while political instability and data deficiencies pose threats.
