nterior design is a versatile profession that
includes conceptual development, space
planning, site inspection, programming,
research, project communication, project
management, and design execution.
Interior design is the art and science of
improving a building’s interior to achieve a
healthier and more beautiful environment
for the people who use the space. An interior
designer is someone, who plans, researches,
coordinates, and manages such remodeling
projects.
Each building tells a story, a story set in its
walls, a story told by its creators. Such stories
are built from the careful work of architects
and interior designers.
These people work together to create a
building and these interior elements are
functional, beautiful, and attractive. They
create spaces around us that affect our
psychology and well-being.
Empty spaces built to perfection with a
delicate balance between planning and
implementation are the work of the
architect. They create new, colorful,
interesting, creative spaces that shine
around us and do not bring boredom.
An architect is a person who designs,
assesses, and supervises the construction
of buildings. It creates a structure in the
given space that is useful and pleasing to
the eye. All details on the outside of the
building are the work of the architect.
After the construction of the building,
the interior designer is responsible for the
access and supply of free spaces in the
building. As the name suggests, these
people design the interior of the area and
decorate the interior of the place according
to the purpose for which they are used.
For example, when they get a project of
a house, they decide which sofas to put
in the room, what curtains fit the sofa,
what color scheme should be followed
in the house if it is necessary to work on
wood. where various pieces of furniture are
placed, where drawings can improve the
appearance of the house, what accessories
such as curtains, clocks, vases, etc. are
needed to balance the room.

Mr Wyan YEUNG
Partner & Director
How would you characterise the
journey of A & B Architects from the
beginning to where you are now?
A&B Architects is a growing design and development
consultancy that has been dedicated to architecture and
interiordesignsince1997.Asourclients’trustedconsultant,
our primary concern is to respond effectively to their needs and desires, and
to devote every care and attention to providing optimum solutions. We aim to
maintain this high quality of service by keeping the studio focused and intimate,
rather than attempting to build it into a large enterprise. That’s why we tend not
to work with corporate clients: we prefer partnerships with clients from diverse
backgrounds, and to explore unconventional approaches in tackling each project.
What inspired you to establish
an Architect & Interior
design firm?
As a partner in the firm, I believe our
innovative approach will blend artistic
inspiration and solid functionality,
thereby crafting bespoke solutions for the
architectural and interior design industry.
Rather than being a traditional architect,
weseeourselvesasourclients’development
consultant, contributing our professional
knowledge to match and enhance their
business decisions. We envision business
strategies as being like sails to propel
the vessel of our common purpose. We
and our clients are in the same boat and
sail together.
Walking through this long journey,
what kind of challenges did
you face?
Carrying out our clients’ vision is my prime
direction, and this continually brings me new
challenges. I aim to realize our clients’ vision
and values through tailored design. My team
takes the utmost care in the journey from
the development of a concept to its eventual
execution.Becauseofourbespokeapproach,we
choose to stand apart from conventional firms
in terms of self-promotion and advertising.
We therefore prefer not to promote ourselves
through social media in the same way as our
competitors. All our new clients approach us
through referral from our previous and current
clients and we choose to rely on word-of-
mouth marketing, though this can sometimes
be quite challenging.
On how many projects have you worked? Which of them is or was tough to design?
I have worked on numerous projects in the past few years. In my practice, all projects are tough and unusual
because I always strive to pinpoint the uniqueness of a project and to unlock its unforeseen development
potential. I am quite lucky in having developed a clientele who share a similar philosophy with me. Equally,
my team is highly experienced in architectural and interior design work, ranging from private housing to
hotels, to the latest high-tier data centre. We are one of the leading specialists in designing high-tier data
centres. The design philosophy we’ve developed is totally different from the conventional approach. It’s not
something we could have learned at architecture schools. Windows, day and night, and natural ventilation
are meaningless; maintaining system redundancy, security and efficiency are the only goals.
Do you have any special memories that make you feel particularly proud of your
contribution to the Architecture industry?
I believe the client always comes first, and I am devoted to delivering my very best to foreground my
clients’ insights and goals. I believe that pouring commitment into what I do and constantly striving for
breakthroughs are what makes for successful designs. That’s why we are keen to provide our clients with
exciting and innovative alternative approaches which they might not otherwise have considered.
What challenges have you noticed in terms of future growth in the
architecture industry?
The principle is simple – never sacrifice quality for quantity. Conventional design approaches can no
longer satisfy today’s market needs and we must understand the 21st century world in the context of the
latest relevant knowledge from economics, sociology of technology , political science, geography, history
and other disciplines.
What would you like to say about your team?
I have the best team in the studio. I also reckon grooming young talents is important. My studio is
perfectly placed to recruit the best of the best graduates directly from the school .
What leadership skills do you think propelled you towards success?
Emphasizing that each design must be logical and precise, yet innovative and artistic. I believe there
is always more than one solution to a design problem, and that there must be an appropriate balance
between the intricacies of a design and resource constraints, all the while maintaining amplitude
and versatility.
Tell us about your life journey and academic experience.
I strongly believe in taking a broad approach by valuing the input of diverse disciplines and specialists
to create extraordinary designs through holistic solutions that address the world’s most pressing issues.
I love architecture and the role it plays in everyone’s life since it can be an expression of civic and
personal values.
What will be your message to young, aspiring future architects?

environments are both relentless and ubiquitous, they
are made up of a repetitive fabric of residential and
commercial development that creates a monotony to the
way inhabitants experience the city.
Masterplanning is key to XLMS’s ‘Place-making’ of urban
environments or the making of a connection between
buildings and their environments. By embedding them
in social infrastructure, their buildings act as catalysts
for vibrancy, diversity, and regeneration. XLMS projects
include large-scale urban design, workplace, science &
technology, houses, residential, retail, hospitality, and,
increasingly, hybrid combinations of these typologies
‘mixed use’.
Every stage of each project, from concept to planning to
construction, is carried out in close contact with the Client.
Depending on the requirements of each project, a team is created and
coordinated by a project manager who interacts with professional

rchitecture is the art and technique of
designing and building, as distinguished

The practice of architecture is employed to fulfill
both practical and expressive requirements, and
thus it serves both utilitarian and aesthetic ends.
eightsixthree is an award-winning design studio
based in Hong Kong. Their work and their team
are intentionally cross-disciplinary, a mixture that
encourages fresh ways of exploring old problems.
Architects and interior designers work with
project managers and urban planners, tackling
projects as big as 600,000sqm or as small as 45sqm.
They are a flexible team, a strategy that allows
appropriate talents to be assigned effectively to
each project, be it architectural or interior design
services, sophisticated CAD modeling, rendering,
or project management.
Their design approach is simple. They have no house style. They create designs that are tailored to suit your needs
and aspirations and are sensitive to each project situation. They believe a clearly defined problem declares its
solution and begin this process by questioning, defining, and researching the functional and technical issues
contained within the client brief. Only after they are fully conversant with your needs do we commence the design.
They appreciate and encourage their clients to be demanding, as you play a fundamental role in enriching their
designs, goals, thoughts, and working process. With each project, the client collaborates with them by responding
to their design proposals over a series of stages. The final design solution is reached with both parties – client and
designer – understanding and endorsing all decisions.

e like to have a customized interior
at our house or office in order
to maintain good vibes. Interior
design is a kind of a mirror that reflects our
thoughts & choice.
The interior design consists of multiple factors and has
to be uniquely presented, because the ambiance around
you keeps the environment healthy. It’s necessary to
have a clear idea of how we will be utilizing the space
and for what purpose. Only then can a designer can
fulfill our expectations of a spectacular interior.
Before jumping into the design part, let’s try to figure out
the importance of sustainable & eco-friendly interior
designs and their material.
This article can be a practically eco-friendly interior
design guide for you. So, keep reading till the end.
Sustainable interior design &
eco-friendly materials

Sustainable interior
design & eco-friendly

“Living more sustainably isn’t a hippie thing. It’s a survival thing.”
Importance of Sustainable Interior Design
Sustainable interior design practice demonstrates a
sincere commitment to environmental protection.
In interior design, sustainability is included in many
aspects of the project to ensure high-quality design
with short-term environmental impact, waste &
pollution reduction. An interior design company with
a sustainability study is very careful when choosing
building materials that are good for the country.
Providing a project solution can also save costs along
with customer benefits in the long run.
Use & Growth of sustainable materials
Designers take into account the life cycle and long-
term environmental impact of materials. The impact is
thought through at all stages of production and after the
disposal of used sustainable building materials.
The importance of sustainable materials today plays
an important role in project planning. Architects
and interior designers are working hard to spread
this concept around the world. Perseverance has thus
become an important path for all of us.
Sustainable materials are aging with us as they
become an integral part of our history. Doing good
requires strength for the next level of thinking,
which goes hand in hand with the life decisions we
take every day.
Eco-friendly items are essential.
Sustainability has become a fashion in large parts of
the world & concern about climate change is rising
too. Keeping the need of the hour in mind, many have
started looking for recycled or upcycled decorative
materials and products to enhance their interiors.
Top picks on the eco-friendly material list are
as follows:
☐	Bamboo
The world’s tallest & strongest grass is currently on
the rise as it has showcased the ability to replace
various materials that contain various toxic synthetic
chemicals. Bamboo has been in use in different parts
of Asia for ages.
It is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world,
making it unique versus hardwood plants that take
decades to grow.
☐	Recycled Materials
The recycling business model has been adopted
by many governments, as it provides a solution to
scrap & other waste that is spilled on a large part of
the land.
Governments are promoting recycling units to
expand their operational capacity to get rid of the
waste problem. Metal recycling and paper recycling
units are the top units currently active in the waste
management industry.
☐	Jute fiber
India holds the most prominent position in jute
production, followed by Bangladesh. The jute plant
is useful in various ways. Its leaves can be cooked or
can be sold in the vegetable market, its outer stem is
useful for manufacturing bags, rugs, and many more
useful products. The inner part of the jute plant is
useful in manufacturing paper.
☐	Upcycled products
	 Tyresthatareofnouseinvehiclesratherthanburning
can be reused for physical training, a decorative piece
at a cafe, or a unique compound wall inside a garden.
Plastic bottles can be reused to plant flower saplings
on the balcony or can be painted and used as a
decorative pen stand.
Final thoughts
Sustainability is the need of the hour and it’s our
responsibility to take actions that benefit the
environment to get healed.
The practices mentioned above in this article are a
few of the suggestions that can create a difference if
we act together.

ong Kong is a city that has a long-entangled heritage between

diversified culture. With the growth of architecture design
and building technology, skyscrapers are built higher and higher.
Hong Kong, as the richest and fast working speed city in the world,
covers thousands of skyscrapers and high-rise buildings in its limited
land. In Hong Kong, the structure engineers prefer to use light steel

curtain. This kind of design is beautiful and modern but has some
potential limitations.
The Oval Partnership Limited are Architects, Urbanists, and Designers.
They transform cities and create places where you want to be. They are
an award-winning team of international strategic planners, architects,
and urbanists who conceive and execute leading projects that nurture
and sustain the long-term value of a community’s social, ecological,

Their projects enhance the human experience, tell the story of context,

Smart City
A smart city is an urban development using
Information and Communication Technology and
the Internet of Things to provide useful information
to effectively manage resources and assets. This
includes data collected from citizens and mechanical
devices, that are processed and analyzed to monitor
and manage traffic and transport systems, power
plants, water supply networks, waste disposal, etc.
Also called eco-city or sustainable city, the smart
city aims to improve the quality of urban services or
reduce its costs. It stands out for its specificities: smart
management, lifestyle, mobility, housing, as well as
a smart economy. Their main goal is to reconcile
technological innovation with the economic, social,
and ecological challenges of the city of tomorrow.
Their leitmotiv is the quality of life: how to live better
together while respecting our environment.
Is Hong Kong a smart city?

trend in city planning and development, featuring the
use of information and communications technologies
for more efficient management of a city’s services and

well-positioned to pursue smart city development
because of its advanced ICT infrastructure developed

The recent outbreak of COVID-19 and the resulting
use of technology in combating the virus have further
fuelled the development of Hong Kong as a smart
city. COVID-19 has accelerated the use of digital
payment technology which forms a critical part of
a smart city backbone. Under the pandemic, local
consumers are now spending more with contactless
and cashless payment options than ever before, as
physical handling of coins and notes is often viewed
as a viral risk.
AccordingtotheAsiaCloudComputingAssociation’s
Cloud Readiness Index 2020, Hong Kong was ranked
first among cities in Asia. The outbreak of COVID-19
has boosted the usage of the internet, mobile devices,
and other virtual activities. Alongside these changes,
information security, as well as protection of personal
data, are rising concerns to the local market.
Leading Sub-Sectors:
■ Digital transformation solutions
■ Cloud Computing
■ Data Analytic solutions
■ Internet of Things (IoT)
However,HongKongdidnotscorehighinthesurveys
on smart city development. Internationally, Hong
Kong ranked 87th in a survey conducted by a Swedish
smart parking company in 2019 that assessed the top
100 smart cities around the world along 24 factors
related to smart city technology. Added to this, Hong
Kong only came in 32nd place in the 2020 Smart
City Index, compiled by the International Institute
for Management Development which ranked 109
cities on their integration of smart technologies.
Domestically, only one-third of residents and some
40% of local companies surveyed considered Hong
Kong a smart city, according to a survey report
released by Google Hong Kong in 2019.
Conclusion:
Hong Kong is officially known as the Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region. Hong Kong has one of
the world’s most thriving economies and is a hub for
international trade and investment. A cosmopolitan
city, Hong Kong weaves Western and Asian influence
into a world-class center of business, culture, and
trade.
Further enhancement of Hong Kong’s technology
infrastructure is a critical factor to the city’s
development as a smart city by 2030, according to
this year’s Future Hong Kong 2030 survey report
published by KPMG China in cooperation with CLP,
Cyberport, HKBN JOS, Smart City Consortium,
Siemens, Weave Co-Living and Wilson Group.
As the third annual report from KPMG China
focusing on Hong Kong’s smart city development,
Future Hong Kong 2030 analyses the internal and
external factors shaping Hong Kong’s smart city
transformation over the next 10 years and looks at
how effective governance, smart infrastructure, and
innovation can be used to address the city’s biggest
urban challenges.

CL3 Architects
Limited
T
he architecture of Hong Kong features great
emphasis on contemporary architecture,
especially Modernism, Postmodernism,
Functionalism, etc. Due to the lack of available land, few
historical buildings remain in the urban areas of Hong
Kong. Therefore, Hong Kong has become a center for
modern architecture as older buildings are cleared away
to make space for newer, larger buildings. It has more
buildings above 35m (or 100m) and more skyscrapers
above 150m than any other city. Hong Kong’s skyline
is often considered to be the best in the world,
with the mountains and Victoria Harbour
complementing the skyscrapers.
CL3 is one of the innovative architecture firm based
in Hong Kong, with offices in Shenzhen and Beijing.
Founded in 1992, CL3’s design is contemporary, while
preserving the ability to bridge Architecture and Art.

A
rchitecture, the art, and technique of
designing and building, is distinguished
fromtheskillsassociatedwithconstruction.
The practice of architecture is employed to fulfill
both practical and expressive requirements, and
thus it serves both utilitarian and aesthetic ends.
Although these two ends may be distinguished, they
cannot be separated, and the relative weight given
to each can vary widely. Because every society—
settled or nomadic—has a spatial relationship
to the natural world and to other societies, the
structures they produce reveal much about their
environment (including climate and weather),
history, ceremonies, and artistic sensibility, as well
as many aspects of daily life.
So, here I would like to mention one architecture
firm Barrie Ho architecture interiors, Celebrating
their continuous success for the 20th year. Barrie
Ho, the Founder, and Director of the Hong Kong-
based architects firm BARRIE HO Architecture
Interiors Ltd (BHA) are frequently described as one
of the most influential architectural designers of his
generation practicing today in Asia. Ho is a Fellow
Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects
(FRIBA), a Member of the Australian Institute of
Architects (RAIA), a Member of the Architectural
Institute of Japan (AIJ), and a Member of the
Architectural Institute of Korea (AIK).
Ho has proudly won over 160 major international
design awards from Dubai, USA, UK, France,
Shanghai, Beijing, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, the Asia
Pacific, and Hong Kong, such as Perspective Design
Recognition Awards in 2018, 2017, 2016, 2013,
2012, 2010, 2008, 2007 & 2005, Korea Good Design
Selection Awards 2013, Hong Kong Designers’
Association Awards 2013, 2011, 2009 & 2005,
HKSAR Quality Building Awards 2012 & 2010,
USA International Design Awards 2010 & 2008,
Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards from 2003 to
2009, and Dubai Cityscape Architectural Awards
2008. Ho was also awarded Outstanding Greater
China Design Awards 2006-2013, the Shanghai
China’s Most Successful Design Award 2012, and
the Shanghai China’s Successful Design Award
from 2009-2015.
Unification is the act of becoming a single unit,
whilst Diversification is the act of introducing
variety. Unification of Diversification is the attempt
to sustain a balance between these two seemingly
opposing extremes, searching for unified design
solutions through a diverse array of contemporary
architectural experiments. Their recent publication
Architecture without Adjectives strongly provokes
their manifestation which encompasses a wide
spectrum of project natures. Their prerogative is
to accept all challenges but address the intrinsic
architectural problems with a holistic yet innovative
design solution.

H
ong Kong is known all over the world as a
glamorous city and a top choice for luxury
shopping. But this city-state is steeped in
culture and history and has a lot more to offer than
mouth-watering dim sum and an impressive skyline.
Hong Kong has an energy about it that is hard to
describe. Around every corner is something new and
unique, whether it’s an ancient temple, a shop selling
the latest electronic gadget, or a man taking his bird in
a cage for a walk. Hong Kong has another side as well,
where you’ll find forest-covered mountains, hiking
trails, beautiful beaches, islands, and traditional
fishing villages.
As a Special Administrative Region of China, Hong
Kong presents an interesting study in the influences
of ancient Chinese culture, as well as its attitudes and
history, independent from that of mainland China.
Hong Kong is one of the most impressive cities in
the world, certainly, but there’s much more here
than meets the eye. Find out what to see and do and
discover the best places to visit with our list of top
attractions in Hong Kong.
Things to see in Hong Kong:
Wouldyoubeabletokeepupwiththehurriedlifestyle

to see the city from Victoria Peak. It’s a city attraction
from which you can see Hong Kong Island, the
Victoria Harbour, and even the eight Kowloon

mountains on a clear day. Visiting the markets is a
must, and they’ve been divided into various parts.
There’s a Ladies’ Market where you can find clothes
and accessories in more than one hundred stalls, and
then there’s the Temple Street Night Market where
you can find everything, from noodles to watches.
In Cat Street, you’ll find antiques, and at Apliu Street
Market, you can find electronics. There are also
special markets for flowers, goldfish, birds, kitchen
appliances, etc. I know there are so many places to
visit but I would like to mention some of the famous
places in Hong Kong city:
☐	Disney Land: If you are in Hong Kong on a
family vacation then, a visit to Disney Land is a
must. You can miss out on other experiences,
but you must take your children to this magical
wonderland for a fun-filled day with their favorite
childhood characters. Here, children can enjoy
rides, interactive sessions, dress-up, magic shows,
and numerous other things. And the best part is
that you can stay at Disney land.
☐	Temple Street Night Market: Night Markets are
synonymous with Asian countries and a visit to
one is incomplete without a shopping spree at one
of these markets. You can get everything from a
pin to an elephant here at great bargain prices.
☐
Big Buddha (Tian Tan Buddha Statue): The
34-meter-high “Big Buddha” sits above Lantau
Island’s Po Lin monastery, which was a secluded
place until the statue was built in 1993. This is
one of the largest Buddha statues of its kind in
the world and took 12 years to complete. The
size is astounding, both up close and seen from
a distance. The setting here is also incredible,
surrounded by the green forest and views out over
the ocean and islands.
☐	Wong Tai Sin Temple: The Wong Tai Sin Temple
is one of the newest in Hong Kong and one of the
most interesting. Located in Kowloon, the original
temple was a private structure built-in 1920. It
was later replaced with a newer building in 1968,
which is what visitors see today. The temple was
built to honor the Taoist god Wong Tai Sin, whom
locals regard as the bringer of good luck in horse
racing and a healer of illnesses. A festival is held at
the temple in Wong Tai Sin’s name each fall.
☐
Avenue of Stars: For an escape from the city
towers to a wide-open space with a bit of culture
thrown in, be sure to visit the Avenue of Stars.
This is where the city pays homage to some of
Hong Kong’s best-known film stars. Like the Walk
of Fame in Hollywood, the Avenue of Stars is
dedicated to Chinese performers.
Conclusion:
Hong Kong is undoubtedly one of the most popular
tourist destinations in Asia. It boasts spectacular
views, serene islands, thrilling experiences, exciting
attractions, lip-smacking food, and plenty of amazing
shopping options. The interesting aspect of the many
places to visit in Hong Kong is that there is something
engaging here for everyone in the family.

  • 6. From the EDITOR I nterior design is a versatile profession that includes conceptual development, space planning, site inspection, programming, research, project communication, project management, and design execution. Interior design is the art and science of improving a building’s interior to achieve a healthier and more beautiful environment for the people who use the space. An interior designer is someone, who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages such remodeling projects. Each building tells a story, a story set in its walls, a story told by its creators. Such stories are built from the careful work of architects and interior designers. These people work together to create a building and these interior elements are functional, beautiful, and attractive. They create spaces around us that affect our psychology and well-being. Empty spaces built to perfection with a delicate balance between planning and
  • 7. implementation are the work of the architect. They create new, colorful, interesting, creative spaces that shine around us and do not bring boredom. An architect is a person who designs, assesses, and supervises the construction of buildings. It creates a structure in the given space that is useful and pleasing to the eye. All details on the outside of the building are the work of the architect. After the construction of the building, the interior designer is responsible for the access and supply of free spaces in the building. As the name suggests, these people design the interior of the area and decorate the interior of the place according to the purpose for which they are used. For example, when they get a project of a house, they decide which sofas to put in the room, what curtains fit the sofa, what color scheme should be followed in the house if it is necessary to work on wood. where various pieces of furniture are placed, where drawings can improve the appearance of the house, what accessories such as curtains, clocks, vases, etc. are needed to balance the room. • 12. How would you characterise the journey of A & B Architects from the beginning to where you are now? A&B Architects is a growing design and development consultancy that has been dedicated to architecture and interiordesignsince1997.Asourclients’trustedconsultant, our primary concern is to respond effectively to their needs and desires, and to devote every care and attention to providing optimum solutions. We aim to maintain this high quality of service by keeping the studio focused and intimate, rather than attempting to build it into a large enterprise. That’s why we tend not to work with corporate clients: we prefer partnerships with clients from diverse backgrounds, and to explore unconventional approaches in tackling each project.
  • 13. What inspired you to establish an Architect & Interior design firm? As a partner in the firm, I believe our innovative approach will blend artistic inspiration and solid functionality, thereby crafting bespoke solutions for the architectural and interior design industry. Rather than being a traditional architect, weseeourselvesasourclients’development consultant, contributing our professional knowledge to match and enhance their business decisions. We envision business strategies as being like sails to propel the vessel of our common purpose. We and our clients are in the same boat and sail together. Walking through this long journey, what kind of challenges did you face? Carrying out our clients’ vision is my prime direction, and this continually brings me new challenges. I aim to realize our clients’ vision and values through tailored design. My team takes the utmost care in the journey from the development of a concept to its eventual execution.Becauseofourbespokeapproach,we choose to stand apart from conventional firms in terms of self-promotion and advertising. We therefore prefer not to promote ourselves through social media in the same way as our competitors. All our new clients approach us through referral from our previous and current clients and we choose to rely on word-of- mouth marketing, though this can sometimes be quite challenging.
  • 14. On how many projects have you worked? Which of them is or was tough to design? I have worked on numerous projects in the past few years. In my practice, all projects are tough and unusual because I always strive to pinpoint the uniqueness of a project and to unlock its unforeseen development potential. I am quite lucky in having developed a clientele who share a similar philosophy with me. Equally, my team is highly experienced in architectural and interior design work, ranging from private housing to hotels, to the latest high-tier data centre. We are one of the leading specialists in designing high-tier data centres. The design philosophy we’ve developed is totally different from the conventional approach. It’s not something we could have learned at architecture schools. Windows, day and night, and natural ventilation are meaningless; maintaining system redundancy, security and efficiency are the only goals. Do you have any special memories that make you feel particularly proud of your contribution to the Architecture industry? I believe the client always comes first, and I am devoted to delivering my very best to foreground my clients’ insights and goals. I believe that pouring commitment into what I do and constantly striving for breakthroughs are what makes for successful designs. That’s why we are keen to provide our clients with exciting and innovative alternative approaches which they might not otherwise have considered. What challenges have you noticed in terms of future growth in the architecture industry? The principle is simple – never sacrifice quality for quantity. Conventional design approaches can no longer satisfy today’s market needs and we must understand the 21st century world in the context of the latest relevant knowledge from economics, sociology of technology , political science, geography, history and other disciplines.
  • 15. What would you like to say about your team? I have the best team in the studio. I also reckon grooming young talents is important. My studio is perfectly placed to recruit the best of the best graduates directly from the school . What leadership skills do you think propelled you towards success? Emphasizing that each design must be logical and precise, yet innovative and artistic. I believe there is always more than one solution to a design problem, and that there must be an appropriate balance between the intricacies of a design and resource constraints, all the while maintaining amplitude and versatility. Tell us about your life journey and academic experience. I strongly believe in taking a broad approach by valuing the input of diverse disciplines and specialists to create extraordinary designs through holistic solutions that address the world’s most pressing issues. I love architecture and the role it plays in everyone’s life since it can be an expression of civic and personal values. What will be your message to young, aspiring future architects? “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower” - Steve Jobs. ☐ Year of Founding: 1997 ☐ Founding Members: 3 ☐ Office Locations: Hong Kong ☐ Company Strength: Development Consultancy, Specialists in High-Rated Data Centres & Luxury Homes ☐ Website: www.anb.design

The practice of architecture is employed to fulfill both practical and expressive requirements, and thus it serves both utilitarian and aesthetic ends. eightsixthree is an award-winning design studio based in Hong Kong. Their work and their team are intentionally cross-disciplinary, a mixture that encourages fresh ways of exploring old problems. Architects and interior designers work with project managers and urban planners, tackling projects as big as 600,000sqm or as small as 45sqm. They are a flexible team, a strategy that allows appropriate talents to be assigned effectively to each project, be it architectural or interior design services, sophisticated CAD modeling, rendering, or project management. Their design approach is simple. They have no house style. They create designs that are tailored to suit your needs and aspirations and are sensitive to each project situation. They believe a clearly defined problem declares its solution and begin this process by questioning, defining, and researching the functional and technical issues contained within the client brief. Only after they are fully conversant with your needs do we commence the design. They appreciate and encourage their clients to be demanding, as you play a fundamental role in enriching their designs, goals, thoughts, and working process. With each project, the client collaborates with them by responding to their design proposals over a series of stages. The final design solution is reached with both parties – client and designer – understanding and endorsing all decisions. It’s a survival thing.”
  • 23. Importance of Sustainable Interior Design Sustainable interior design practice demonstrates a sincere commitment to environmental protection. In interior design, sustainability is included in many aspects of the project to ensure high-quality design with short-term environmental impact, waste & pollution reduction. An interior design company with a sustainability study is very careful when choosing building materials that are good for the country. Providing a project solution can also save costs along with customer benefits in the long run. Use & Growth of sustainable materials Designers take into account the life cycle and long- term environmental impact of materials. The impact is thought through at all stages of production and after the disposal of used sustainable building materials. The importance of sustainable materials today plays an important role in project planning. Architects and interior designers are working hard to spread this concept around the world. Perseverance has thus become an important path for all of us. Sustainable materials are aging with us as they become an integral part of our history. Doing good requires strength for the next level of thinking, which goes hand in hand with the life decisions we take every day. Eco-friendly items are essential. Sustainability has become a fashion in large parts of the world & concern about climate change is rising too. Keeping the need of the hour in mind, many have started looking for recycled or upcycled decorative materials and products to enhance their interiors. Top picks on the eco-friendly material list are as follows: ☐ Bamboo The world’s tallest & strongest grass is currently on the rise as it has showcased the ability to replace various materials that contain various toxic synthetic chemicals. Bamboo has been in use in different parts of Asia for ages. It is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, making it unique versus hardwood plants that take decades to grow. ☐ Recycled Materials The recycling business model has been adopted by many governments, as it provides a solution to scrap & other waste that is spilled on a large part of the land. Governments are promoting recycling units to expand their operational capacity to get rid of the waste problem. Metal recycling and paper recycling units are the top units currently active in the waste management industry. ☐ Jute fiber India holds the most prominent position in jute production, followed by Bangladesh. The jute plant is useful in various ways. Its leaves can be cooked or can be sold in the vegetable market, its outer stem is useful for manufacturing bags, rugs, and many more useful products. The inner part of the jute plant is useful in manufacturing paper. ☐ Upcycled products Tyresthatareofnouseinvehiclesratherthanburning can be reused for physical training, a decorative piece at a cafe, or a unique compound wall inside a garden. Plastic bottles can be reused to plant flower saplings on the balcony or can be painted and used as a decorative pen stand. Final thoughts Sustainability is the need of the hour and it’s our responsibility to take actions that benefit the environment to get healed. The practices mentioned above in this article are a few of the suggestions that can create a difference if we act together. - Parag Ahire 23 FEBRUARY 2022 SwiftNLift

Further enhancement of Hong Kong’s technology infrastructure is a critical factor to the city’s development as a smart city by 2030, according to this year’s Future Hong Kong 2030 survey report published by KPMG China in cooperation with CLP, Cyberport, HKBN JOS, Smart City Consortium, Siemens, Weave Co-Living and Wilson Group. As the third annual report from KPMG China focusing on Hong Kong’s smart city development, Future Hong Kong 2030 analyses the internal and external factors shaping Hong Kong’s smart city transformation over the next 10 years and looks at how effective governance, smart infrastructure, and innovation can be used to address the city’s biggest urban challenges. - Amrin 31 FEBRUARY 2022 SwiftNLift
  • 32. CL3 Architects Limited T he architecture of Hong Kong features great emphasis on contemporary architecture, especially Modernism, Postmodernism, Functionalism, etc. Due to the lack of available land, few historical buildings remain in the urban areas of Hong Kong. It has more buildings above 35m (or 100m) and more skyscrapers above 150m than any other city. Hong Kong’s skyline is often considered to be the best in the world, with the mountains and Victoria Harbour complementing the skyscrapers. • 36. A rchitecture, the art, and technique of designing and building, is distinguished fromtheskillsassociatedwithconstruction. The practice of architecture is employed to fulfill both practical and expressive requirements, and thus it serves both utilitarian and aesthetic ends. Although these two ends may be distinguished, they cannot be separated, and the relative weight given to each can vary widely. Because every society— settled or nomadic—has a spatial relationship to the natural world and to other societies, the structures they produce reveal much about their environment (including climate and weather), history, ceremonies, and artistic sensibility, as well as many aspects of daily life. So, here I would like to mention one architecture firm Barrie Ho architecture interiors, Celebrating their continuous success for the 20th year. Barrie Ho, the Founder, and Director of the Hong Kong- based architects firm BARRIE HO Architecture Interiors Ltd (BHA) are frequently described as one of the most influential architectural designers of his generation practicing today in Asia. Ho is a Fellow Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA), a Member of the Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA), a Member of the Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ), and a Member of the Architectural Institute of Korea (AIK). Ho has proudly won over 160 major international design awards from Dubai, USA, UK, France, Shanghai, Beijing, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, the Asia Pacific, and Hong Kong, such as Perspective Design Recognition Awards in 2018, 2017, 2016, 2013, 2012, 2010, 2008, 2007 & 2005, Korea Good Design Selection Awards 2013, Hong Kong Designers’ Association Awards 2013, 2011, 2009 & 2005, HKSAR Quality Building Awards 2012 & 2010, USA International Design Awards 2010 & 2008, Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards from 2003 to 2009, and Dubai Cityscape Architectural Awards 2008. Ho was also awarded Outstanding Greater China Design Awards 2006-2013, the Shanghai China’s Most Successful Design Award 2012, and the Shanghai China’s Successful Design Award from 2009-2015. Unification is the act of becoming a single unit, whilst Diversification is the act of introducing variety. Unification of Diversification is the attempt to sustain a balance between these two seemingly opposing extremes, searching for unified design solutions through a diverse array of contemporary architectural experiments. Their recent publication Architecture without Adjectives strongly provokes their manifestation which encompasses a wide spectrum of project natures. Their prerogative is to accept all challenges but address the intrinsic architectural problems with a holistic yet innovative design solution. BARRIE HO Architecture Interiors Ltd is a RegisteredPractice/CorporateMemberoftheHong Kong Institute of Architects, Corporate Member of the Association of Architectural Practices, Band 3 Architectural Consultant (HKIA List) (AAP List) of the HKSAR Architectural Services Department, and Institutional Member of the Hong Kong Green Building Council. • 38. H ong Kong is known all over the world as a glamorous city and a top choice for luxury shopping. But this city-state is steeped in culture and history and has a lot more to offer than mouth-watering dim sum and an impressive skyline. Hong Kong has an energy about it that is hard to describe. Around every corner is something new and unique, whether it’s an ancient temple, a shop selling the latest electronic gadget, or a man taking his bird in a cage for a walk. Hong Kong has another side as well, where you’ll find forest-covered mountains, hiking trails, beautiful beaches, islands, and traditional fishing villages. As a Special Administrative Region of China, Hong Kong presents an interesting study in the influences of ancient Chinese culture, as well as its attitudes and history, independent from that of mainland China. Hong Kong is one of the most impressive cities in the world, certainly, but there’s much more here than meets the eye. Find out what to see and do and discover the best places to visit with our list of top attractions in Hong Kong. Things to see in Hong Kong: Wouldyoubeabletokeepupwiththehurriedlifestyle this city has? The first thing websites recommend is to see the city from Victoria Peak. There’s a Ladies’ Market where you can find clothes and accessories in more than one hundred stalls, and then there’s the Temple Street Night Market where you can find everything, from noodles to watches. In Cat Street, you’ll find antiques, and at Apliu Street Market, you can find electronics. There are also special markets for flowers, goldfish, birds, kitchen appliances, etc. I know there are so many places to visit but I would like to mention some of the famous places in Hong Kong city: ☐ Disney Land: If you are in Hong Kong on a family vacation then, a visit to Disney Land is a must. You can miss out on other experiences, but you must take your children to this magical wonderland for a fun-filled day with their favorite childhood characters. Here, children can enjoy rides, interactive sessions, dress-up, magic shows, and numerous other things. And the best part is that you can stay at Disney land. ☐ Temple Street Night Market: Night Markets are synonymous with Asian countries and a visit to one is incomplete without a shopping spree at one of these markets. You can get everything from a pin to an elephant here at great bargain prices. ☐ Big Buddha (Tian Tan Buddha Statue): The 34-meter-high “Big Buddha” sits above Lantau Island’s Po Lin monastery, which was a secluded place until the statue was built in 1993. This is one of the largest Buddha statues of its kind in the world and took 12 years to complete. The size is astounding, both up close and seen from a distance. The setting here is also incredible, surrounded by the green forest and views out over the ocean and islands. ☐ Wong Tai Sin Temple: The Wong Tai Sin Temple is one of the newest in Hong Kong and one of the most interesting. Located in Kowloon, the original temple was a private structure built-in 1920. It was later replaced with a newer building in 1968, which is what visitors see today. The temple was built to honor the Taoist god Wong Tai Sin, whom locals regard as the bringer of good luck in horse racing and a healer of illnesses. A festival is held at the temple in Wong Tai Sin’s name each fall. ☐ Avenue of Stars: For an escape from the city towers to a wide-open space with a bit of culture thrown in, be sure to visit the Avenue of Stars. This is where the city pays homage to some of Hong Kong’s best-known film stars. Like the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, the Avenue of Stars is dedicated to Chinese performers. Conclusion: Hong Kong is undoubtedly one of the most popular tourist destinations in Asia. It boasts spectacular views, serene islands, thrilling experiences, exciting attractions, lip-smacking food, and plenty of amazing shopping options. The interesting aspect of the many places to visit in Hong Kong is that there is something engaging here for everyone in the family. - Amrin 39 FEBRUARY 2022 SwiftNLift
