Time Management according to Islamic
Perspective
SURAH AL-ASR
ALLAH ‫وتعالی‬ ‫سبحانہ‬ Himself taking the oath of
Time.
1.By Al- ‘Asr (the time).
2.Verily man is in loss.
3.Except those who believe, and recommend one
another to the truth, and recommend one
another to patience.
(Surah # 103, 30th Para)
Narrated by
Abdullah Bin Mas`ud
Allah’s ‫وتعالی‬ ‫سبحانہ‬
Messenger ‫علیہ‬ ‫ہللا‬ ‫صلی‬‫و‬‫سلم‬ ‫و‬ ‫آلیہ‬
said:
“A person will not be able to
move from his place (on the day
of retribution), until he replies to
five questions:
1.How did you spend your life?
2. How did you spend your
youth?
3.Where did you earn your
wealth from?
4.Where did you spend your
wealth?
5.How much did you act upon
your knowledge?”
[Tirmidhi, 2422; classed as hasan by al-Albaani
in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi,
Ibn Abbas (RA) narrated by the
Prophet ‫سلم‬ ‫و‬ ‫آلیہ‬ ‫و‬ ‫علیہ‬ ‫ہللا‬ ‫صلی‬
“There are two blessings which people neglect.
They are health and free time.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
 Prophet Muhammed ‫سلم‬ ‫و‬ ‫آلیہ‬ ‫و‬ ‫علیہ‬ ‫ہللا‬ ‫صلی‬ used to advice
his Sahaba to take advantage of 5 things
before they vanish.
1. Youth before the old age.
2. Prosperity before poverty.
3. Health before ailment.
4. Leisure time before becoming busy.
5. Life before death.
So we come to this conclusion that,
 It is vital for a Muslim to
manage time properly.
Our Dilemma & Solution
Now we discuss the 10 effective tips to find
the solution of our dilemma
TIP # 1
Begin with the End in Mind
• Set High Goals- Most important
The first tip is to begin with the end in mind, which simply
means you must have a goal in mind, if you don’t have a goal
then where are you putting your efforts?
Once you have goals, you understand what you want to fit into
your schedule, and once you understand what to fit into your
schedule then you know how to make your schedule.
Keep in mind the examples of Imam Bukhari (RU) and
Salhudin Ayubbi.
TIP # 2
Focus on Allah’s ‫وتعالی‬ ‫سبحانہ‬pleasure
• Plan your day around Salah- Most
important
• Barakh comes only from Allah
• Allah ‫سبحانہ‬‫وتعالی‬ has set a schedule for us in the
form of salah.
This relates to tip no. 1 that is, when you make
your goals make sure it is for the Pleasure of Allah ‫وتعالی‬ ‫سبحانہ‬.
Whenever Allah‫وتعالی‬ ‫سبحانہ‬ talks about Salah, He talks about
establishing Salah and not just praying it, establish it in our
lives. The Muslim who establishes Salah is already in a
schedule, and this is where we see the difference who establish
the prayer and those who haven’t. Those who have establish
Salah will say, “We will pray Zuhr at its time and then eat our
lunch.” while those who haven’t established it will say, “ We
will eat lunch first and then pray Zuhr”. Establishing
Salah perfectly on its time brings the barakaah in our lives.
An amazing example in Islamic history is
that of Salahuddin Ayoubi. He lived in a time
when Muslims were in the worst of conditions. The Crusaders
took over the Jerusalem. In this period one man liberated
Jerusalem. When you read his life, he had one
GOAL and that was liberating Jerusalem.
Therefore, you should have a goal in mind so
that you have an idea where you are headed.
But make sure your goals are pleasing to Allah ‫وتعالی‬ ‫سبحانہ‬.
TIP # 3
Make Dua daily
• Remember that success only comes from Allah ‫سبحانہ‬‫وتعالی‬
• Dua is the weapon of the believer.
• So make dua that I seek refuge in Allah ‫وتعالی‬ ‫سبحانہ‬ from
laziness and incompetence- and it will help us for
time management. Recite Sunnah duas for laziness.
• Lets make it habit, In Shaa Allah ‫وتعالی‬ ‫سبحانہ‬.
• Ask dua in sajdah.
• Must know the times in which dua is accepted.

forgot all that what I have
told you earlier. But its most
Important to concentrate what is coming up
next , because if you understand this you have

Self-Discipline is the Key
• Make a weekly schedule.
• Differentiate between urgent and important
tasks.
• It means ridding yourself of bad habits like laziness, over sleeping,
etc.
• Make schedule and stick to that schedule. A weekly schedule works
best but you can also make a monthly schedule or a daily one.
• Sticking to your schedule is crucial.
• We need to know what is urgent and what is important.
For All That We Need is
TIP # 5
Divide into workable chunks
• Best of deeds are those that are small and consistent.
The same applies to our worldly life as well.
• Split work. Don't do too many things at one time. This
ensures a quality job as well.
• Don't leave things for last minutes.
• Don't try to do tasks in one day.
• Divide it into chunks and then do them.
• Sharia was not revealed in one day.
• Don't try to do things all in one day. You will get
more done this way.
• We need to avoid getting burnt out.
• Take your time out. Whatever suits you, an hour a day break,
or a weekend break, or once a month, or a small holiday in a
year - depends on yourself. Take a break.
• Avoid Distractions. Don't get distracted to answer whatsapp
messages, facebook messages every time your phone buzzes.
• Set aside a time of the day to answer all the emails and
messages.
TIP # 6

Islamic concept. As Muslims, we should always try to

a new person.
 Always work on self-improvement and
personal development. Try to make
yourself better tan before. Never stop
learning, growing, and discovering your
own hidden talents.
TIP # 7
Take a Break
 We also get burned out. At times, the zeal that we have
in the beginning of a task, it fizzles out.
 Do not forget to take a break.
 We need to have halal fun. Whether it is a hour a day or
whatever suits you, do take breaks and spend time with
your family too. This way, we can carry on tasks on a
constant basis without burning out.
 Even Prophet ‫صلی‬‫سلم‬ ‫و‬ ‫آلیہ‬ ‫و‬ ‫علیہ‬ ‫ہللا‬ used to spend time for halal fun
with his wives & children.
Prophet’s ‫سلم‬ ‫و‬ ‫آلیہ‬ ‫و‬ ‫علیہ‬ ‫ہللا‬ ‫صلی‬ advice Hazrat Abu Darda (RA).
TIP # 8
Delegation
 Delegate tasks. If you know that there are people
around who can do a certain tasks well, delegate
them. Prophet Muhammad ‫سلم‬ ‫و‬ ‫آلیہ‬ ‫و‬ ‫علیہ‬ ‫ہللا‬ ‫صلی‬ delegated the
da'wah of Madinah to Mus'ab bin Umayr. Delegate
tasks, that way you will have more time at hand.
Authors have ghost writers. An example of
delegation.
TIP # 9
Eliminate Time- Wasters
 Haram should be eliminate first.
 Pray your Salah with khushoo.
 Stay away from idle speech. Do not waste your time in this.
 Issue of sports. How many hours of your life goes in sports,
watching them. It is a waste of time. Replace watching sports
with a productive pastime like playing sports. It is far better.
Refrain from wasting your time.
 Each of us need to sit and analyze. What time your are
wasting and eliminate it.
Those who beseech in their prayers.
And those who turn away from vain talk.
Surah Al-Muminun (23:2&3)
TIP # 10
Learn Shortcuts
 It will eventually save time.
 Whenever Prophet ‫سلم‬ ‫و‬ ‫آلیہ‬ ‫و‬ ‫علیہ‬ ‫ہللا‬ ‫صلی‬ had to choose between
two options, he would choose the easier. So choose
way that is easier and halal. Reported by Hazrat
Aiashi (RA).
 Never take a shortcut if it reduces quality. But there
are many shortcuts which will not reduce quality,
utilize them.
Bonus Tips
 Do multi tasking.
 You don't have to follow everybody's advice, but be open to
others' advice. You might benefit from their advice.
 It is difficult, but learn to say 'no' nicely, politely. When you
have goals to meet, learn to say 'no' politely so that you don't
hurt the other person.
 Staying fit and healthy is part of our religion. It is very, very
important for our time management. Keeping energy levels
high - very important.
 Strive for ihsaan, excellence in everything you do.
If you are running a business, be the best in halal
business.
 If you are a teacher, be the best teacher you
can be. Strive for excellence in everything that you do.
JazakAllahu Khair for listening
with patience and taking out
few minutes from your precious
time.
