1. If all the world´s cultural heritage (sports, music,
fashion, architecture, literature, painting, etc.)
was contained in a time capsule, what would
you include to demonstrate the legacy of your
country?
BY EDUARDO ANZOLA
2. Throughout my life sports have had a key
role in my formation as an individual. My
parents envisioned this activity as a
substantial tool to convey me values for
life; hence I professionally practiced
football, golf and later on skydiving.
3. Now looking back to all those experiences I can
soundly say that those activities endowed me
skills, qualities and above all values that are
essential to succeed in the sport field and in
offices: sportsmen, entrepreneurs and
businessmen do not stop when initiating a
project, they know there is no time to waste.
4. It is a known fact that some of the best
sportsmen around the world, when retiring
undertake a new life in the business world.
Upon retiring may have dedicated their
charisma and talent to build business
empires able to make millions of dollars a
year.
5. For example, boxer Oscar de la Hoya, gold
medalist in Barcelona 92, became, after his
retirement, the first Hispanic with a promoting
company of boxing combats in the United
States. Golden Boy Promotions has an
important income source through pay per view
with more than 4 million viewers annually.
6. Cases like this, and my personal experience
allow me to conclude that sports is definitely a
school, as it provides essential values to
succeed in business, among them I can easily
visualize the following
7. • COMPETITIVITY
Against others and
against oneself
• EFFORT
Individual and maximum
level of demand
• TEAM WORK
• PURSUIT OF
EXCELLENCE
8. • SELF-KNOWLEDGE
• TRAINING
To exploit strengths and
minimize weaknesses
• FRUSTATION
TOLERANCE
To confront situations
that are beyond our
9. OPTIMISM
It may seem absurd, but none of the above
mentioned values make sense without
optimism. Because the first step to win a
match, as well as to succeed in a business is
believe and for that one must face challenges
with the best attitude.
10. So when I came across this question:
If all the world’s cultural heritage (sports,
music, fashion, architecture, literature,
painting, etc.) was contained in a time
capsule, what would you include to
11. I did not hesitate for a second that the legacy
this capsule would contain from my country,
Venezuela, would be its sport level. Venezuela
has given a lot in the sports field, but the current
situation has led both the world and ourselves to
forget that we were able to break world records.

19. Definitely, if I were to include something in the
time capsule, it would be this great achievement
of my country, which I undoubtedly believe is a
legacy for all humanity.
