Editor's Notes

• #2 Out tool's name is called ticket to read. This program is offered by the Cambium Learning Group in addition to other programs available. Ticket to read is a program that allows students develop reading, comprehension and vocabulary skill. It was designed to cater students from Kinder to the 6th grade level. Not only the student will be learning vital reading capabilites, but will compete in a global level with other students.
• #3 Ticket to read has a variety of upgrades. For starters there is a 30-day trial then licensing per student can be purchased.
• #4 Prices range from 5 to 20 dollars depending on how many licenses will be purchased.
• #5 Once the license is purchased, the teacher will issue the student a username iand log-in.
• #6 When the student logs in the intial presentation is given by the primary character "ticket.' The second page will be their own space.
• #12 Ticket to Read is a great program for support students in reading fluency and vocabulary development but also with skill development.
• #13 When the program senses that the student is not understanding a concept, it will begin students on a mini lesson pertaining to that specific strategy as seen here with cause and effect.
• #14 Words are highlighted with the color that matches either cause or effect. Ticket to Read uses visuals like color coding and pictures to strengthen students understanding of the concept This program supports skills that our students are learning in class currently which is why it is such a useful resource.
• #15 In this slide we can see that TJ the ticket is giving clear instructions before students begin the assignment. This particular assignment has students reading and answering questions based on the passage they had been working on. The number of questions they answer correctly will determine how many tickets they earn from this assessment. Another helpful characteristic of Ticket to Read is that it assesses students in several different ways including filling in the blank, answers multiple choice questions and dragging answer bubbles to the correct sentences as seen on slide 10.
• #16 This slide shows an example of a student assessment.
• #17 At the end of the exercise, the student will have the opportunity to re-do the incorrect questions, by re-reading the passage.
• #18 Here is an example of what the student will see when given the opportunity to re-do incorrect questions. We like that TJ the ticket offers a few words of advice to help to student stay on track!
• #19 Students having the ability to correct their work is very important. This slide shows another example of a correction. You’ll notice at the green arrow that there is an option for students to ask for ‘clues’. This keeps students from getting frustrated and also allows them to continue to work independently. Teachers have the ability to log on and print progress reports that offer an explanation as to how each student is doing in the program. This allows teacher to see improvement as well as notice students who might be hurrying through the program just to earn tickets.
• #20 When students have completed the questions and reading, they will receive their quiz score, the number of tickets they earned and how many words per minute they read. With regards to tickets, teachers can log on to Ticket to Read a limit the amount of time each student spends in the ‘club house’ spending their tickets. This restriction is appropriate for students who are rushing through the assignments in order to hurry to their clubhouse.
• #21 The exercises we just walked you through repeat with several different stories as show on this slide. Once students have successfully completed their story, there will be a green check next to the story title. Overall, Ticket to Read is a program that both students and teachers get excited about. The curriculum is appropriate to individual students and can be easily monitored by a teacher. We both highly recommend this program.
