3. Description
Commonly used thyme is a aromatic, narrow stemmed herb
with small , pointed, evenly placed leaves from the base of
the squared stem to the tip.
4. History
Ancient Greeks used it in their baths and in their temples as
aromatherapy.
The Greek women would also bear gifts to knights and warriors
containing thyme to bring them courage in the war.
Ancient Egyptians used thyme for embalming because it can be used as
a preservative.
5. Medicinal Uses
Before modern antibiotics, thyme essential oil
was used to medicate bandages.
A tea made by dunking the herb in water can
be used for coughs and bronchitis.
7. Culinary Uses
Thyme is sold both fresh and dried.
My favorite use of thyme is in Greek cooking.
It tastes particularly good with chicken, fish,
and lemon.
