The Thousand Islands archipelago stretches 80 km downstream from Kingston, Ontario in the Saint Lawrence River along the Canada-U.S. border, containing over 1,793 islands ranging greatly in size from over 100 km2 to small islands with just one residence. The area is a popular vacation spot for boaters and campers, often called the "fresh water boating capital of the world".
