1. Thorium Not Exported By VV Minerals,

five or six minerals like Garnet, Ilmenite, Rutile, Zircon,
Sillimanite etc., in varying percentages. The Monazite content
in the Beach sands is very low. It may contain Thorium from
7.0- 8.5%. It is believed that in Tamil Nadu VV Minerals a
private heavy mineral mining company is mining thorium for
export along with monazite. However no beach Mineral
sands lessees is keen to recover the Monazite because of low
% in the ROM, besides the radiation hazards it may produce.
The Machinery &equipments for the processing units for
beach mineral sands are not readily available. They are
custom made, depending mainly upon the contained minerals,
their percentages, mesh sizes and other impurities.
VV Minerals was alleged to have sent out monazite that can
also be referred to as ‘Nuclear gold’ along with heavy mineral

all the appropriate processes when it comes to mineral
mining. It is wrongly believed that monazite is being sent out
because all mining activities are supervised by government
authorities and The AERB makes an Annual inspection of all
the facilities, mines & refilled pits. They carry out the
measuring the % of Monazite in the ROM; products & waste
tailings. Therefore it is next to impossible that under such
strict control any company can get away by carrying out illegal
activities especially, VV Minerals, Vaikundarjan who is known
for following all the rules and regulations.
Unlike other states in India, the Garnet Industry in Tamil Nadu
has been developed so well, largely through private
initiatives, interest & involvement, with very little
Government encouragement. This is all because one name

practicing fair trade and not being involved in any illegal
activities. Therefore, putting such false allegations on them is
absolutely a wrong thing to do.

3. The monazite content though very low in the beach sands is
still left untouched after thorium is extracted from the sands.

the Nuclear Gold is retained in the sands and nothing happens
to it. VV Minerals, Vaikundarajan has been into this trade for
quite some time now and has acquired all the statutory
clearances and measures to lawfully carry out his business
processes. Therefore, no one can accuse him of practicing foul
trade. It is because of S. Vaikundarajan that this particular
industry has been flourishing in India and bringing monetary
