We think Steven Spielberg's CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND deserves careful attention. This belief is not based on its contributions to the art of film—we couldn't find any. But we do think it has a lot to tell us about the relationship of politics to the U.S. culture industry.
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND reflects recent economic and ideological trends in the United States better than many "news" reports. A study of this movie shows how capitalism produces propaganda that reinforces the system at the same time it creates "entertainment." Specifically, we argue that CLOSE ENCOUNTERS can be viewed as a fascist film. We'll show that its theme, structure, and symbolism strongly echo those of the films of pre-fascist and Nazi Germany. Then we'll draw the political lessons. (2)
For those few who somehow missed the film or the news stories about it, here is a brief outline. The plot revolves around the visiting of middle America (Muncie, Indiana) by a number of unidentified flying objects. Although the UFOs are sighted by many reliable citizens and leave clear evidence of their presence, news media and government officials (at least publicly) dismiss reports of the visits. But the aliens do two main things to make sure their visits will be acknowledged. They broadcast numbers that correspond to the latitude and longitude of Devil's Tower, Wyoming, where they plan to land. And they implant, by telepathic suggestion, a picture of Devil's Tower on a number of people, who then feel an overwhelming urge to go there, a need they don't understand.
The plot works on two corresponding levels. The main plot involves the struggle of two common citizens, Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) and Jillian Guiler (Melinda Dillon) first to understand the aliens' message and then to overcome the attempts of authorities to prevent them from getting to Devil's Tower for the alien landing. The subplot concerns the process by which scientific and military officials, headed by Frenchman Claude Lacombe (François Truffaut) decipher the aliens' transmissions and get the meeting point up so the UFOs will land.

In Hitler’s Germany, Hitler makes people believe that they have the responsibility to contribute to the rising of the nation, and narrow self-interest should give way to the great goal. The fundamental reason why people voluntarily obey orders is that they have been brainwashed and trained in this way for a long time, which leads to another consequence, that is, people tend to become cowardly and obedient under the rule of tyrants. They lose their ability to think about the behaviors of tyrants in a critical way. However, the White Rose Group in Hitler’s Germany is different from other obedient people. The group members oppose the Nazism, and their behaviors also cause a negative influence on Hitler’s Nazi rule. Therefore, people have the responsibility to think critically and act ethically.

The White Rose Group was a patriotic underground resistance organization founded at the University of Munich in Germany during World War II. Its members were mostly students of the University of Munich, led by brother and sister- Hans Scholl and Sophie Scholl (Toby 06). In addition, there were many other members who also contributed to the development of the group, such as the professor of philosophy Kurt Huber, soldier Willi Graf, Christoph Probst, Alexander Schmorell and so on (Simon 42). They came together for their opposition to Nazi Germany's brutal rule and evil war. The members of the group fought against the Nazis mainly by issuing leaflets to arouse the German anti-war spirit ideologically. There were films about White Rose Group in Germany, such as “Sophie Scholl: The Final Days” in 2005. The spirit of the two young people was as beautiful and lofty as a white rose and became a symbol of hope in the darkness. In 1943, shortly after the White Rose Group was founded, the group was informed by Nazis in the school when they operated a secret leaflet dissemination action. The formation of these initial “nucleating sites” is therefore rare and will not occur spontaneously at cellular concentrations of tubulin. Centrosomes contain preassembled rings of γ-tubulin (in which the γ-tubulin subunits are held together in much tighter side-to-side interactions than αβ-tubulin can form) to which αβ-tubulin dimers can bind. The binding conditions of αβ-tubulin dimers resemble those of adding to the end of an assembled microtubule. The γ-tubulin rings in the centrosome can therefore be thought of as permanently preassembled nucleation sites.

Thus, to initiate a microtubule from scratch, enough tubulin dimers have to come together and remain bound to one another for long enough for other tubulin molecules to add to them. Only when a number of tubulin dimers have already assembled will the binding of the next subunit be favored. The formation of these initial “nucleating sites” is therefore rare and will not occur spontaneously at cellular concentrations of tubulin. Centrosomes contain preassembled rings of γ-tubulin (in which the γ-tubulin subunits are held together in much tighter side-to-side interactions than αβ-tubulin can form) to which αβ-tubulin dimers can bind. The binding conditions of αβ-tubulin dimers resemble those of adding to the end of an assembled microtubule. The γ-tubulin rings in the centrosome can therefore be thought of as permanently preassembled nucleation sites.
3- Dynamic instability causes microtubules either to grow or to shrink rapidly. Consider an individual microtubule that is in its shrinking phase.

The rate of addition of GTP-tubulin will be greater at higher tubulin concentrations. The frequency with which shrinking microtubules switch to the growing mode will therefore increase with increasing tubulin concentration. The consequence of this regulation is that the system is self-balancing: the more microtubules shrink (resulting in a higher concentration of free tubulin), the more frequently microt.
