THERESA TOBIN MACY
As William Butler Yeats says,“Education is not filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.” Among
the chorus of praises written about Theresa in multiple student surveys, one word rises to a chant, finding
its way into every response. Passion. Her love of learning is, as one student put it, infectious. Another
student mused that Theresa’s lessons stuck with her long after she finished the course, saying that during
multiple massages she found herself wondering what Theresa would do, if there was a better way.
In 2003, after a twenty-year career in practice management, Theresa Tobin Macy, Licensed
Massage Therapist, Myofascial, and Yoga Therapist, graduated from the Professional Massage Therapy
program at the Pennsylvania School of Muscle Therapy. Upon graduating, Theresa earned a certification
in deep muscle cross fiber therapy from the Pfrimmer Institute. In 2008, she joined the faculty at Cortiva
Institute as an instructor of Massage Therapy,Myofascial Release,Neuromuscular Techniques,
Musculoskeletal Anatomy and Kinesiology, Ethics and Business. The following year, she earned her
continuing education provider designation from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage
and Bodywork. She has accrued over 1000 hours in continuing education credits and continues to learn,
focusing most heavily on myofascial release for children and adults, deep tissue techniques, assessment
skills, therapeutic yoga, and fascial fitness.
Theresa’s integrative approach to teaching includes effortlessly engaging students, sharing
information and resources, drawing upon a rich skill set, and creating a path to learning. She is
professional, yet energetic, her enthusiasm for health, wellness, yoga and massage contagious.
As a student, you will not be handed answers, but will think and thrive in a collaborative
environment. You will learn to nurture your own health and wellbeing as a therapist, challenging view
points and opening yourself up to new experiences that may have previously felt beyond your capabilities.
