The boy loved to play in the tree as a child, climbing her branches and eating her apples. As he grew older, he asked the tree for money, housing, and a boat, and each time the tree allowed parts of herself to be used to provide for the boy. Though sad each time she lost a part of herself, the tree was glad to help the boy. In the end, when the boy was old and tired, the tree welcomed him to rest on her stump, finding happiness in continuing to provide for the one she loved.
