1. The Woods at Cherry Creek
I’ve played The Woods at Cherry Creek a few times. The course has always been in good
shape. I have played very well there at times. There are also times it feels like I am trying to hit
every tree.
The better rounds I have played here are one with one of my better friends. While I am not
fond of advice on the course, he keeps it simple, mostly tweaking my aim, adjusting my stance a
touch. These are all simple adjustments that don’t mess with my swing or anything. He is
familiar with my slice and that I hit the ball off my back foot, so he can tweak me a bit.
This isn’t the hardest course I ever played. My biggest gripe is it is on the narrow side.
Overall, it is an enjoyable course if you can stay out of the trees. I have had the rounds where I
am in the trees all day. Hitting out of the trees can be hit or miss for me. Accuracy is important
here.
Let’s look at some of the more memorable holes. While I like the overall secluded feel of the
course, there isn’t a lot of variety to the holes. If you like being in the woods, you’ll love it, if
you want it wide open, this isn’t the course for you. The 1st hole, if you slice, the good news is
trees aren’t an issue, bad news, you are bringing water right into it on your approach shot.
The 6th and 8th holes are fun little par 3’s, and are well placed to break up the theme of being
long and straight. They are two of the easier holes on the course, and both are easy birdie or
par opportunities.
The back nine is more of the same. The 10th hole tends to slow down a bit, but the ½ way
house is right there. While I have commented on it, the pace is generally pretty good, 3 ½ - 4
hour rounds. I botch this hole every time because of the slow down, but I tend to get back on

2. my game as it picks right back up. I have always played well on the back nine here aside from
the 10th. 14, 15, and 16 I tend to go par, par bogey, which is a great run for me.
The 17th is an intimidating par 3. There is water along both sides, with a bunker on either side
of the green, and another behind the green to catch you if you go long. I tend to hit from trap
to trap. This isn’t one of my favorite par 3’s.
To finish up, there is another par 5. There is water right before the green, and my ball seems
to have a magnetic attraction to it. I have gone in every time. You would think I’m aiming for
it.
I think this is a nice course. It is fun to play if you aren’t in the trees all day. If you are in the
area, it is different from the other 2 courses you will pass on your way coming down the street.
