Charles de Gruse was a likeable and cultured French man known for his generosity and amusing stories. He owned a vineyard in Paris and did not think one had to be French to enjoy wine. He decided to write a book about his most famous winepress, including the long-kept secret formula that produced a magical wine. As a clever man, he decided the book would only be published after his death.
