THE “ WHO CARES “ ATTITUDE
IN THE MELTING POT OF MALAYSIAN HEALTH AND STRATEGIES
BY DR SALINA ABDULLAH
INTRODUCTION
1.Unwed mothers (Unwanted pregnancies ) ,
2. Unwed fathers and
3.Abandoned ( Unwanted ) babies
are the 3 human lives that are involved in the birth of a child out of wedlock .
Parents , Health care workers and Welfare officers advice the pregnant mother that they are
doing something beautiful and noble for their child by giving the child up for adoption . This
‘martyr’ mindset may cause depression and secondary infertility if the eventual adult does not see
it that way .
Family separation is traumatic
for everyone involved, and if there is a way to keep the biological mother, biological father and child
together, it should be found.
OBJECTIVE
HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY
1. This policy exists from the 18/52 gestation until 32/52 . The unwed mother ‘s Antenatal
Health is taken care of (insured) during this crucial period .She need not try to terminate
her pregnancy or be forced by her peers ( the parents , neighbours , society ). We can put
an end to FIRST TRIMESTER ABORTIONS AND 3RD
TRIMESTER RISKS
2. The policy will give the child a MEDICAL CARD whereby the child’s health needs will be
taken care of
3. The policy will give the biological mother the ‘ PAYOR BENEFIT ‘ whereby the mother is
insured and enjoys all the health benefits .
4. The best part is the child enjoys education upto to university and will have some money
for himself by age 25 yrs .
5. These benefits can help the couple to be together and marry later and remain as a family
6. Should the woman remarry she continues to enjoy the Payor Benefits . She need not suffer
the abuse of her new husband and her child . There have been cases of murder too.
CONCLUSION :
Every woman undergoes a sense of insecurity when the biological father is not beside her. Her
emotions soar out of the roof throughout the 40 weeks of her pregnancy .These attached emotions
are hard to handle and when night falls and she has to go to bed alone how will she overcome these
issues?
An Unwed Mother undergoes all these emotional turmoil …. The only difference being her feelings
are not recognized .She has no right to these feelings because she is made to regret her pregnancy
firstly by parents and then society . She is made to feel inadequate.
The initial reaction by parents to abort the child influences the pregnan twoman to do what they
order as she would never need to regret allowing the pregnancy to progress. But is this the end to
their escapade? No someone else comes along and history repeats itself . This time she decides to
take matters into her own hands and inevitably being unable to manage on her own without
parental support she gives the child away to be fostered so that the link is completely broken .This
is where child trafficking occurs and the child is even sold to another country .
Choose to have him (the biological father ) in the family set up.
