The document tells the story of the Israelites' journey out of Egypt to the Promised Land. It describes how after 400 years of slavery in Egypt, God led the Israelites out on a 4-week journey. However, they began to complain and wish they had stayed in Egypt. God provided manna from heaven to feed them and help continue their journey to establishing a new community in the Promised Land, as God desired to shape them differently than in Egypt. The story and its themes of trusting God during difficult journeys and changing to build a new community can still apply today.

What Should be the Christian View of Anime?Joe Muraguri

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.

15. “In this passage, God acknowledges
not only the Israelites' need for
assurance but also God's desire to
shape them as a different kind of
people, a different kind of community.”
Amy Erickson
Think about the last time you went on an unexpected journey:
Maybe you’ve had to make a 58 mile detour round the Rest and Be Thankful….
Or maybe you were caught up in the Ash Cloud in 2010….
Or maybe your life just took an unexpected direction. [need hospital sign]How do you cope with unexpected change? What do you do when things don’t go the way you expected – or wanted?
Let’s read the passage.
This story is set in the early Bronze Age approximately 3400 years ago. The story was first written into the Hebrew Bible during the time of the Exile in Babylon around 600 years later. So personally I’m not sure I believe every detail of the story. However, it is important to our understanding of the Exodus, which is the liberation narrative of the Jewish people. The fact that this story was written down while the people were facing an uncertain future tells us something about that time as well as the time it was set.
Exodus timeline:After 430 years in Egypt, the people were increasingly enslaved and badly treated, and were suffering genocide.Moses was raised up as leader, and finally led them free after plagues had devastated Egypt. They had only been in the desert a few weeks, and had already faced water shortages.
They had already encountered water shortages, and had complained to Moses. Under God’s instruction, he had purified the water using a piece of wood. They had then spent some time in an oasis at Eli
But had moved on to the inhospitable Sinai desert. And their supplies had run out.
What did they do. They complained.
But note that complaining didn’t lead to punishment. We often get the feeling (esp from later in the Exodus and passages in Numbers) that God was angry with the people for “grumbling”. But in this case that didn’t happen. And you’ve only got to look at some of the psalms to see that complaining to God is a vital part of an honest relationship with him.
But look what happened. God listened.Key messages:God hasn’t abandoned youGod will provide(a Gyro is what we know as the post-pub kebab)
But the other key message….Trusting God means obeying him…and this is the start of the Sabbath. Before the Law.…and you need to keep renewing trust – every day, every week
The characteristics of this community:Trust in GodKeeping the Sabbath – ensuring rest and prioritisation
Keep telling the story
So let’s sum up… I’d like you to take three things away with you today…Complaining isn’t always wrong – especially if you find yourself in a tough situation. Be honest with God.God responded to the people’s cries. Again. He did not abandon them. And he wants us to keep telling our stories
