Origin
The Portuguese machete was introduced in the
islands by Portuguese immigrants from Madeira and
the Azores and this instrument evolved to the
present-day ukelele.
Materials and shape
It is usually made of wood, commonly acacia koa but it
can sometimes be made of plastic or other materials.
The most expensive ukeleles are made of rare woods
like mahogany.
