The ukulele is a small, four-stringed guitar-like instrument originally from Portugal that evolved in Hawaii where it became particularly popular. It is traditionally made of wood like acacia or mahogany but can also be made of plastic, and famous Hawaiian players introduced it to wider audiences in the United States.

small guitar with a characteristic sound.
Origin
The Portuguese machete was introduced in the islands
by Portuguese immigrants from Madeira and the Azores
and this instrument evolved to the present-day ​ukelele​.
Materials and shape
It is usually made of wood, commonly acacia koa but it
can sometimes be made of plastic or other materials.
The most expensive ukeleles are made of rare woods

The instrument has four strings but some have six or eight.
Famous players
The ​ukelele has been played by many traditional
musicians from Hawaii, an American archipelago
in the Pacific ocean.
Some of the most famous players are: Israel
Kamakawiwo’ole, Jesse Kaleihia Andre Kalima,
James Hill or Roy Smeck.
