The Toledo War was a 19th century boundary dispute between the states of Ohio and Michigan over the Toledo Strip. It involved the sending of militia units to the disputed territory by each state's governor to assert their claim, but resulted in only one minor confrontation known as the Battle of Phillips Corner. The dispute was eventually resolved in 1836 when Michigan agreed to cede the Toledo Strip to Ohio in exchange for the western part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, which later proved economically valuable due to mineral deposits.
