HOW HAS CLOTHING/
  MANUFACTURING
CHANGED MELBOURNE?
HOW HAS CLOTHING/MANUFACTURING
      CHANGED MELBOURNE
         ECONOMICALLY?

Manufacturing of clothing helped the economy thrive and the Clothing
Industry was successful because everyone needs to by clothes.

The Clothing Industry grew substantially when the Gold Rush
started, because flocks of people started flooding in and they needed
to buy clothes.

Recently, clothing workers wanted higher wages, which they received.
It was harder to continue or start a business because of this and
cheaper to buy clothes overseas in other countries (mainly Asia)
because the working wage is extremely low in other countries. This
had a bad affect on the economy in Melbourne and Australia because
people were buying overseas and not in Australia.
HOW HAS CLOTHING/MANUFACTURING
  CHANGED MELBOURNE SOCIALLY?

Before the 1900s women were obliged to wear long
dresses, they were prohibited to show their skin and
they received limited rights

But soon women’s rights changed and they started to
not rely on men but rely on them selves by finding
professional jobs and wearing different types of
clothing
HOW HAS CLOTHING/MANUFACTURING
      CHANGED MELBOURNE
       ENVIRONMENTALLY?

Cotton is a material used to make clothes. It
first is a plant that appears to have cotton
buds on it, then it is transformed into material
        used for clothing.
A cotton plant requires a lot of water to
survive. This has a bad affect on the
environment because this process uses up a
        sufficient amount of water.
This has resulted in the government restricting
the harvesting of cotton to a certain degree
HOW HAS CLOTHING/MANUFACTURING
 CHANGED MELBOURNE POLITICALLY?

In the last century the upper class had more control
over the country than the middle and lower classes.

Before the 1900s people could easily tell the
difference between lower, middle and upper class by
 the way they dressed

Today people who are in upper class can wear jeans
and a light T-Shirt. e.g. Steve Jobs or even Gina
 Rinehart
