Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

In this session, we'll share insights on how we used PostgreSQL to facilitate precise searches across multiple fields in our mobile application. The techniques include using LIKE and ILIKE operators and integrating a trigram-based search to handle potential misspellings, thereby increasing the search accuracy.
We'll also discuss how the azure_ai extension on PostgreSQL databases in Azure and Azure AI Services were utilized to create vectors from user input, a feature beneficial when users wish to find specific items based on text prompts. While our application's case study involves a drug search, the techniques and principles shared in this session can be adapted to improve search functionality in a wide range of applications. - 2. Once there was a girl. She was very decent and intelligent. She was not naughty like other kids.
- 3. Whenever she had free time, she used to go outside looking at the mountains, sky and stars at night. She bought a telescope for such activities.
- 4. One day she told her friends that she is going to the space in future.Her friends laughed but she didn’t care.
- 5. When she completed her early education, she went to U.S for higher studies. She was having a big poster of lightening stars on the sky in her room. She used to imagine herself in space as she turned off the lights of her room.
- 6. She was a brilliant student. She achieved good grades in her study. After that she joined a company named “Virgin Galactic” commercial space liner . Virgin Galactic is an American spaceflight company within the Virgin Group. It is developing commercial spacecraft and aim to provide spaceflights to people.
- 7. She joined the group of the first 100 would-be space tourists to book a future flight as a passenger on Virgin Galactic's commercial space liner. There were 44000 applicants for flight but she got selected because of her passion , hardwork and intelligence. She completed Virgin's two-day passenger training. After two years of training, she got the certificate.
- 8. Due to some technical issues,the flight did not go to the space after two years.Hopefully she is going soon and would be the first Pakistani female astrunaut in the space.
- 10. Yes! this is the story of Namira Salim.

About Namira Salim Born:Karachi, Pakistan Founder and Executive Chairperson of Space Trust, artist Known for First Pakistani at the North and South Poles, first Asian to skydive (tandem) near Mount Everest, and would-be space tourist on Virgin Galactic. Awards:Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Medal of Excellence), 2011 Power 100 Trailblazer Award, 2013
