This short story describes a climber who slips while climbing a mountain at night. As he falls, he calls out to God for help. A voice from the sky tells him to cut the rope around his waist if he believes God can save him. The climber decides not to cut the rope and holds on, and is later found dead, frozen and hanging from the rope with his hands tightly gripping it, just one foot from the ground.
