The Medellín River flows through the city of Medellín, Colombia, dividing the city in two. It begins at an altitude of 3,100 meters above sea level and flows for 100 kilometers before joining the Porce River. The Medellín River basin receives water from around 200 direct tributaries and over 352 creeks. To help protect the river, people should avoid littering, support clean up efforts, and report any suspicious activities. The Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Aburrá launched the S.O.S. River S.O.S. pure life strategy to protect the Medellín River through sanitation, decontamination, monitoring, and risk management programs and projects.
