Your perception of yourself is very complex. Similar to how you cannot see your own nose, you may often be blinded to the things that you are best at. It can be really hard to identify your brightest talents and they are often in the places you least expect. You may even be very good at things that you perceive yourself as being bad at. There are many good reasons to want to explore your talents but it's going to take a little work.
One good thing to think about was what your childhood was like. What did you do a lot as a kid? What did you enjoy? What were you known for? Sometimes this can reveal some of your deepest talents and certainly will reveal interests that can be probed further. Think about your hobbies as your personality is made by them they are the things you do regularly and your hidden talent is that which you can do better than everyone so focus on your hobbies and how you do them every single step.
• Another thing you can think about are the times in your life that you've been challenged. Think about the tough situations that you've had to deal with. Times of trial can often reveal your hidden skills. For example, when your dad had a heart attack, maybe you kept your head and called 911. Staying alert and calm in an emergency is a really useful talent.

Let's Talk About Mental Health - NDC Oslo 2018Arthur Doler
It’s a great time to be in technology. And yet despite the improvement in our tools, we somehow don’t spend time talking about how to maintain our most important tool - the one between our ears. Your mental health is arguably the single most important factor in your ability to perform well, avoid burnout, and build resiliency, but we shroud the topic in secrecy, stigma, and co-opted clinical language that makes us think we know what's going on. We often don't even speak of what we feel to family and friends until we're facing a crisis.
We need to change all of that. You don't have to stay in the dark, and you *don't* have to suffer alone. In this talk we’ll start with some basics about mental health, then cover the most common mental health challenges facing developers, and then learn about some techniques to supercharge your brain by improving your mental hygiene (whether you have a psychological disorder or not). Most importantly, you’ll learn how to have a conversation with your coworkers (and other people in your life) about supporting each other and finding your best selves.

3. SEE IT AS A CHALLENGE
•Practice emotional minimalization. Do not
overblow it in your mind
•It’s just something to do; set about the task.
•It’s kind of like a regular job.
7. SOLICIT SUPPORT
• Come right out and ask
• If they say no, move on to the next person
• Do not expect friends and family to be all you
want them to be.
• Spread out your requests, and therefore your
expectations.
• Do expect help from surprise sources.
• If there is no help to be found, turn to
professionals.
• There are resources out there to help you if you
have no money to pay for professional help.
9. ACCEPT THE PROBLEM,
EMBRACE IT, and LET IT WORK
THROUGH YOU AND IN YOU.
THIS ALLOWS A GENTLE FIGHT
RATHER THAN AN ALL-OUT WAR
RESILIENCE
10. THINK ABOUT THE WORST-CASE
SCENARIO AND WORK TO
COUNTERACT THAT.
11. YOUR PROBLEM IS NOT YOU.
It is part of your life
experience just like
anything else
Use it, let it go, learn
life lessons.
Maybe it is something
you move through, get
over, and get on with it,
not feeling any great
impact on your life.

Editor's Notes
NATURE. When stress is very high; leave the situation immediately and do something distracting. You will come back to a better state of mind in which to think, make decisions, and work. If you can’t afford a gym: Allegheny County Parks and Rec; YMCA; sometimes yoga studios have work study programs.
How I did that with cancer. How I am trying to do it now.
Rest, take breaks, eat well, exercise. Get a better roof over your head. Find your tribe. Do things to make you feel better and take your mind off of the challenge. You will come back to it refreshed. TIPS; Aldis; Trader Joe’s. Getting out: Theaters offer pay-what-you-can. Go to free happy hours of networking groups, and get yourself work as well! MonMade.
You may need to do a lot of research. Throughout this process, you will find your natural decision-making style. Use it.
Get on a schedule. Get someone to hold you accountable. Notebook. Spreadsheet. Google sheets. Lots of other tools out there. DO EXERCISE. Remember to include a part for research if it is the type of problem that needs it.
TAKE MEDS IF NEED THEM.
Some of mine are: doing research, getting exercise, talking to the right people. Some that did not work for me…..support groups (depending on the support needed), counseling/therapy (depending on therapist),
You are learning resilience. Cancer. Momcare, jobhunt, ageism, technology. TELL US ABOUT YOUR SURVIVAL SKILLS. PRACTICAL TOOLS, EMOTIONAL COPING MECHANISMS, RESEARCH IDEAS, ETC.
Mom going into assisted living. Me having nothing when I get old.
My experience with cancer as something to just get through. Versus my experience now with something I don’t know if I can get through. Maybe there is no lesson. Let it go.
