The Loretto Chapel in Santa Fé, New Mexico attracts around 250,000 visitors annually due to its mysterious "miraculous" staircase. When the chapel was completed in the 19th century, it lacked a staircase to access the second level. After nine days of prayer, a stranger arrived and constructed an elegant winding staircase without any visible means of support. The staircase was built using an unknown wood type, in just one day, without nails or glue. To this day, engineers cannot explain how the staircase remains standing without a central support beam. This has led many to believe the carpenter was Saint Joseph answering the nuns' prayers.
