Hughie Erskie wants to marry Laura Merton but has no money, while her father Colonel Merton doesn't want her to marry a poor man. Hughie visits his painter friend Trevor, who is painting the portrait of a beggar. Hughie feels sorry for the beggar and gives him money. Trevor later reveals the beggar is actually a millionaire named Baron Hausberg, who was interested in Hughie and Laura after Hughie's kind act. The Baron gives Hughie enough money so that he can marry Laura and live happily ever after.

3. PLOT Hughie Erskie, a charming young man, wants to marry Laura Merton. However, he has no money; all his business goes badly… Laura´s father( the Colonel) doesn´t want his daughter to marry a poor man. Hughie visits his painter friend Trevor. He is painting a portrait of a beggar.

4. Hughie feels sorry for the poor man and gives him some money. Some days later, his friend Trevor tells Hughie the beggar was a millinaire(Baron Haughberg) and was really interested in Hughie and Laura. Hughie feels completly stupid but thanks to his behaviour, Baron gives him money enough to marry and live happily even after.
