The Metropolitan Opera will produce Engelbert Humperdinck's opera Hansel and Gretel during its 2017-18 season. The production, directed by Richard Jones and conducted by Donald Runnicles, will run for seven performances from December 18 to January 6, 2018. It will tell the Brothers Grimm story of Hansel and Gretel in three acts, taking the characters from their home, to a dark forest, and finally to a witch's gingerbread house. The Met's version will feature a reversal of traditional gender roles for some characters.
