A woman from the Dakota nation became jealous when her husband took a second wife. When it was time for the tribe to break camp, she refused to leave and was left behind. When her brothers-in-law returned, they found that she had turned to stone. The tribe brought the stone statue of the woman with them as they traveled and believed it was holy. It now stands at the Standing Rock Indian Agency in South Dakota.
