The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
Â
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesarâs dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empireâs birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empireâs society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Â
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
⢠The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
⢠The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate âany matterâ at âany timeâ under House Rule X.
⢠The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasnât one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

History of Bill Gates
Bill Gates made a lot of changes to the way the world operates through technology and made life at lot easier for other people around the world. Bill
Gates (also known as William Henry III or Trey) is an American entrepreneur, business mogul, investor, philanthropist, and one of the most richest and
influential people in the world. He was also known as the best businessman in the 20th century. In his years as a child, he had the attitude for math and
science as well as showing interest in computer programming in his teenage years.
Bill Gates (William Henry Gates III) was "brought" to this world on October 28, 1955 in the "lands" of Seattle, Washington. He growed up in an
upperâclass family with his two sisters: Kristianne and Libby Gates. His father, William H. Gates Sr., was a shy and promising law student when he
met his "future" wife, Mary Maxwell, who was an ongoing student as an athletic in the University of Washington. Mary, at the time, was actively
involved in student affairs and leadership. His families atmosphere is very warm and close and all of the three children, including Bill himself, were
all promoted to be competitive and academically intelligent by their parents. However, Bill showed early signs of "competitiveness" whenever he
plans to play board games, such as Monopoly and Risk, with the family at their summer house located in Puget Sound. In his childhood, Bill had a very

Bill had this belief that the personal computer would blow up and be in every home.
Gates had these ideas of unlimited expansion and always creating new things. Bill gates vision regarding the computing world were built around
Microsoft and software management. With Gates leadership Microsoft's goal was to advance and improve software technology and to make it easier,
more cost effective for home users.
First computers ran on Dos. Bill had intentions on creating MSâDos. He figured one day that MSâDos would replace Dos. Also Microsoft created
Excel, Microsoft Word, Access, ect. These programs are used by at least 50% of the PC's in the world.
As I said earlier Bill Gates left college to start in his computer future with Microsoft. He has showed his devotion and had work to them for 25 years
(1975âxxxx) He now is Chairman and chief software architect of Microsoft Corporation, the leading provider for personal computers. So by sticking
with the company he is now worth nearly $6.1 billion dollars.
He is also very hard working with his job. With all the money and yachts and things he doesn't have much time to use them. He now has a wife,
Melinda French, and two kids. The son's name is Rory John and the daughter's name is Jennifer Katharine. So with his family and business he doesn't
have much time for himself. He spends most of his time in meetings because he still has to at the head of the class.

Bill Gates is known as one of the richest entrepreneurs in the world. He is responsible for creating the largest computer and technology business in the
world, Microsoft. In the company's early days, no one would have thought that it would change both America and the world from that point on. Gates
and his company have created both computers and software that has revolutionized everything in America and the world. What is more amazing is the
company continues to grow and revolutionize the ways in which Americans live out their lives. Most importantly,Gates makes people comfortable with

Middle class Americans could now purchase a personal computer that would not put a set back in their bank account. As soon as personal computers
started hitting the mainstream market, the demand for improvement began. People wanted their machines to boot up faster, have larger memory, have
improved programming, and be easier to use. Luckily Gates already knew the people would have these needs, so development was already underway.
Once the ball started rolling, Gates realized that the technologies used in his computers, specifically the microprocessor, could be used in other items
than a computer. For example, elevator controls, traffic lights, automobiles, heating and air conditioning systems, stereos, televisions, etc had now
become more technologically advanced, saving manufacturers a great deal of money. As one can see, Bill Gates technologies were slowly evolving
everything in our daily lives that at first we may not have realized. Gates allowed many things to occur more efficiently with less space and time
required. This is important because the better the pace Americans run their lives, the better the whole American system runs.
Like the television changing vacuum bulb technology to liquid crystal display technology, Bill Gates knew that his company would not hold up if he
did not constantly continue for improvement. As personal computers began to improve on technology, so did the users' knowledge. People were
beginning to realize that

When William Henry Gates came into the world in the year 1955, the fledgling computer industry was still trying to spread its wings and fly. AOn
the day he was born in 1955, fewer then 500 electronic computers had existed in the entire world, their total retail value amounted to less then $200
million, and the term Asoftware@ had not yet been coined.@(Manes, 2) Bill first laid a hand on a computer in 1968 while in junior high school.
The computer business was rapidly transforming at this time, and so was Bill Gates. He saw the real profitable side of computers was not their
hardware. Rather it was the software end of the business. Good software is what makes a computer exciting and easy to use. Bill Gates grabbed this
concept and ran with it. The result: As of 1993 AGates was personally worth more than $2 billion@, and his company, Microsoft, was Avalued at more

Bill Gates definitely uses two situational contingency approaches in his leadership (participate and delegate) and these approaches compliment his
chosen path for achieving goals (participate and achievement oriented). Firstly, he knows how to judge which leadership skill is necessary and when.
When it comes to product lines and programming, he takes a hands off approach, he delegates. He picks the best graduates, out of the best universities
and gives them lots of responsibility. This opens up the priceless entrepreneur spirit within every employee and makes it Microsoft's own.
However, when it comes to meetings, he will not just set at the back of the room and play the role of the boss. He jumps into the details of the meeting â

Employees at Microsoft work together in small teams on a per project basis. The teams are given a budget and allowed to organise their own working
hours and arrangements, effectively with each team working like a small business on its own. This unique style of microâmanagement is what Gates'
describes as being one of the reasons behind the continued success of the company. Gates has managed to form one of the worlds largest
organisations and has still managed to retain much control over decision making through the development of his management style and vision.
Entrepreneurial vision is what Gates has plenty of. The continuing expansion and dominance of Microsoft has shown him to be consistently striving
