What is JQF?
JIST QUIZ FORUM a.k.a. JQF is the semi-official Quizzing Club of
Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology (Formerly, Science
College) formed of people passionate about quizzing and its
peripherals.
Once in a while, it organises various quizzes under its aegis and on

Ancestry.com, a genealogy website recently discovered that X, 40 is distantly related to Y,
who died in 1930.
The connection is a direct, albeit a distant one and the two were found to be 16th cousins,
twice removed. Their common ancestor was John of Gaunt, the duke of Lancaster and the
fourth son of King Edward III of England, who lived in the 14th Century, the website said.
John of Gaunt was Y's 15th great-grandfather and X's 17th great-grandfather.
"Making family history connections is similar to piecing together a mysterious puzzle,"
said the site making an obvious reference to the relation between the two individuals.

“The poem represents the voice of the river Brahmaputra through the voice of the music maestro. Dr. Bhupen
Hazarika is known for his passion for the mighty river and is called the 'Bard of Brahmaputra'. So, when I needed
someone to represent the voice of the river in my film, I immediately decided to approach him .... He was ailing
and not well when I approached him for recording the recitation for the film. However, he agreed to lend his voice
and we finally recorded the recitation in February 2010.”
The above is a quote by director Bidyut Kotoky on the famous poem of Bhupen Hazarika used in his 2012
Assamese film whose music was composed by Zubeen Garg and has the same title as the famous poem.
It is a 2012 Assamese language socio-political thriller film, with some dialogue in Hindi, starring Sanjay Suri and
Bidita Bag in the lead roles. The story was inspired by the kidnapping of activist Sanjoy Ghosh, who was first
abducted in 1997 from the island Majuli in Assam supposed to be by the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA)
and subsequently killed. A controversy developed when it got rejected by the jury of the 59th National Film Awards
in the category of best Assamese film for being “not Assamese” and names such as Nandita Das and Adil Hussain took
an active part in the protests. However, it remains as the last film to be voiced/narrated by the legendary Bhupen
Hazarika.

Amit Nag (1933-2007), founder editor of the popular Bengali journal, 'Sambhar' was a noted
journalist from Silchar. He was known for his investigative journalism and was among the few
journalists of the time who could manage tete-a-tete with leaders of the underground Naga or
Mizo rebels. He met Rani Gaidinliu on a number of occasions and also wrote her biography
- an authoritative source on the life and struggle of the legendary freedom fighter. His
reports and articles were held in high esteem even by the authorities in New Delhi as evident
from this letter that X writes to Amit Nag about his article on the Naga insurgency. It is to be
noted that this period saw the formation of the Naga Central Government (later renamed as
Federal Government of Nagaland) led by A.Z. Phizo and witnessed violent clashes between
the Naga rebels and the Indian Army. A reassessment of the Naga policy was therefore of

X, the world's fifth-smallest state, claims to be the world's oldest surviving republic. According to legend, X
was founded in 301 AD when a Christian stonemason known only via the single name: Marinus (meaning
‘of the sea’), later venerated as Saint Marinus, emigrated in 297 AD from the Dalmatian island of Rab, then
a Roman colony. Marinus later became a Deacon and was ordained by Gaudentius, the Bishop of Rimini;
shortly after, he was recognised and accused by an insane woman of being her estranged husband,
whereupon he quickly fled to Monte Titano (Mount Titan, the highest of X's peaks) to build a chapel-
monastery and live as a hermit. Later, the X would bud from the centre created by this monastery. Living
in geographical isolation from the Diocletianic Persecution of Christians at the time, the mountain people
were able to live peaceful lives. When the settlement of fearful mountain people was eventually
discovered, the owner of the land, Felicissima, a sympathetic lady of Rimini, bequeathed it to the small
Christian community of mountain dwellers, recommending to them to remain always united.
The Holy See confirmed the independence of X in 1631 and X claims to have a constitution established on
the 8th of October, 1600 and also has the unique distinction of being the world's first democratically elected
communist government - a coalition between the Sammarinese Communist Party and the Sammarinese
Socialist Party, which held office between 1945 and 1957

X is a musician whose most notable instrument is the piano. He is the first person in musical
history to play Indian classical music on the piano in a style he pioneered and created
through the Indian instrument called the Santoor. A review in US-based Keyboard magazine
described him as the fastest keyboard player in the world and called him the keyboard

Le Chevalier C. Auguste Dupin is a fictional character created by Edgar Allan Poe. Dupin made his first appearance in
Poe's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" (1841), widely considered the ___ _____ _________ _____. He reappears in "The
Mystery of Marie Rogêt" (1842) and "The Purloined Letter" (1844).
Dupin is not a professional X and his motivations for solving the mysteries change throughout the three stories. Using what Poe
termed "ratiocination", Dupin combines his considerable intellect with creative imagination, even putting himself in the mind of the
criminal. His talents are strong enough that he appears able to read the mind of his companion, the unnamed narrator of all three
stories.
Poe created the Dupin character before the word X had been coined. The character laid the groundwork for all the
fictitious X to come, including the legendary and most famous: Y, and established most of the common elements of the X
fiction genre.

During the reign of either Chao-Pha Surampha (Swargadeo Rajeshwar Singha) or
Chao-Pha Sunyeopha (Swargadeo Lakshmi Singha), an Ahom scholar by the name
of Thao-Muong Chao Numoli Borgohain wrote the infamous Chokori Pheti Buranji
where the references of Ahom clans were outlined. In that book, Kirtichandra
Barbarua, a high ranking Ahom noble, was said to be a Jolombota (fake Ahom)
based on his family history.
One of the last few protected copies of the book which survived through smuggling
was later translated by Chao Nagen Hazarika from Tai-Ahom into Assamese in
1991.

X is a famous tragicomedy novel written by a very well known British author Y. It
was her first adult novel and received much criticism from literary circles stating she
was not fit to write for adults. Major themes in the novel are class, politics and social
issues like that of drugs, prostitution and rape. The novel was the fastest-selling in the United
Kingdom in three years and had the second best-selling opening week there
since Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol. The book was adapted into a BBC television
drama for release in 2014. A Sikh family plays an important part in the novel, and the

Sikh faith. The author stated that she admires the Sikh religion and had done a vast
amount of research on Sikhism. Other members of the Sikh community
appreciated the fact that she portrayed Sikhs and Sikhism in a favourable light and actually

The Sargasso Sea is a region of the North Atlantic Ocean bounded by four currents, that together form a
circulating ocean stream called a gyre. A distinctive body of water often found with its
characteristic brown Sargassum seaweed and often calm blue water, it is very different
from the rest of the Atlantic Ocean.
The sea is bounded on the west by the Gulf Stream, on the north by the North Atlantic Current, on the east by
the Canary Current, and on the south by the North Atlantic Equatorial Current, a clockwise-circulating system
of ocean currents termed the North Atlantic Gyre. It is expansive, stretching from roughly 70
degrees west to 40 degrees west, and from 20 degrees north to 35 degrees
north, giving it approximate dimensions of 1,100 km wide by 3,200 km long (700
statute miles wide by 2,000 statute miles long).Bermuda is near the western
fringes of the sea.
