1) The author wanted to gift his blind nephew a SmartCane device to help with his blindness but found it was not available outside of India. 2) He reached out to members of his church in India by email, sharing the story of an NBA player who was supported despite his disability, and asked if they could help purchase a SmartCane. 3) One man, Mr. Godi, replied that he would help and paid for the SmartCane's delivery costs to get it to the author's nephew in Taiwan.

1. The Kindness of Strangers

Until today, I still think it’s a gift to my faith in the end.
Taipei is not my hometown and my younger brother’s family lives in
Taitung where is east of Taiwan and actually, it’s the place I was
born. When I knew his son selected to study in Taipei for senior
high school education then, I decided to reward him with a gift
because he is blind (two-eye due to cancer in early age.) and he
has been studying with normal students since primary school.
Based on this idea, I lucky read the news of daily mail in June and
found SmartCane device is helpful for blindness not only the
features itself, but also its affordable price due to invented in India.
However, after reaching the maker I was advised that they don’t
sell the device outside India. Hence, I knew I need to deal with it
myself because of no outside resource.
In my memory, the nation is full of raped crime and victims were
hung in trees as news report sometime, and that’s my image of
India. Because of this scary fact, who can I find as a helping hand
to buy SmartCane for me? Fortunately, I think of myself as a LDS
member and perhaps members in India can help me out I guess.
So I started to send Emails to them with my request in June and I
skipped the communication process for the following.
Coincidentally, the NBA draft 2014(National Basketball Association
USA) happens a touching story in June as one-eye blind player,
Isaiah Austin, strived to play for his NBA dream but he was
diagnosed Marfan syndrome before the draft. In the mean time,
surprisingly, the president of NBA, Adam Silver, selected him as
ceremonial player at the draft stage in order to support him with
NBA million-dollar insurance. This love & care story of NBA
inspired me and people around the world and therefore, I quoted
this BIG story in my Email and asked members of India if they
could help me as NBA cares for that one-eye blind player but in
my case, just to show friendship to my two-eye blind nephew at

2. least.
Positive responses replied quickly, one man even said I need no
worry because it’s on him.(Mr. Godi as photo shown below.)
Although I didn’t let me pay for it however, he eventually paid for
some cost of delivery by speed Post. In addition, he even advised
it’s available to work with me later as we still have many blind
people who may need SmartCane device in Taiwan.
I review and know the above-mentioned idea works because of
spirit of God. You might think language, communication network
important in this case but, what I think the most important thing is
God’s spirit. With it, I was able to quote a touching story and
foreigners’ heart was softened as well. That’s why I consider this
whole story is a gift to my faith at last.
