The Help tells the story of black maids working for white families in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960s. Skeeter, a white woman, works to write down the personal stories of Aibileen, Minny, and other maids. Their stories expose the racism and inequality faced by black domestic workers despite their close relationships with the white families they serve. Skeeter hopes publishing their stories will help combat racial injustice and change societal attitudes of the time.
