Zacchaeus, a wealthy tax collector, climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus as he passed by. When Jesus saw Zacchaeus, he told him to come down as he would stay at his house. Though others grumbled that Jesus was associating with a sinner, Zacchaeus pledged to give half his possessions to the poor and repay anyone he had wronged four times over. Jesus declared salvation had come to Zacchaeus' house, for the Son of Man had come to seek and save the lost.
