What Does the Future Hold for the Nursing Industry?
The future of nursing is bright - great job growth and high demand for educated nurses over the next decade. That said, the industry is still facing a number of challenges in the years ahead. The most glaring issue the the nursing shortage the US will be facing in the coming years. With 1/3 of all RN and LPNs due to retire in the next 10 to 15 years, there will be less nurses available to serve our aging population. The number of educated nurses will need to increase significantly to makeup for this loss in nurses, as well as the changes that will take effect with the Affordable Care Act. Along with the implementation of new technologies like Electronic Medical Records, nurses will face challenges as we look ahead but will in a position of great opportunity.
