In the first semester of 2013, Spain's exports of furnishing products registered a significant increase of almost 13%, reveling how hard Spanish companies are working to compesate the fall of domestic sales and promote their presence in the five continents. Sales to EU countries, America and the Middle East registered the best results, but Spain is also increasing its presence in African emerging markets. Read more....
According to ESTACOM statistics, Spanish furniture exports grew at an annual rate of +15.4% to 1,603 million euros last year. France, Portugal, Germany, United Kingdom maintained their leading position among Spain’s major markets, making up almost 50% of total exports.
In this study, productivity growth of the Finnish regions is decomposed by using plantlevel data from 1975 to 1999. The results show that there was an extremely strong performance in terms of labour and total factor productivity growth in the province of Oulu during the 1990s and an increasing part of the productivity growth in the province of Oulu can be explained by the reshuffling of the input shares among incumbent plants. The evolution of the so-called ”between component” of aggregate productivity growth is therefore the key to the understanding of the recent surge in productivity growth in certain regions of Finland. We further show that the acceleration of productivity growth through plant level restructuring has entailed compression of productivity dispersion between plants within regions. We examine factors behind productivity-enhancing restructuring as well. There seems to be evidence that exports stimulate productivity-enhancing restructuring at the plant level of the Finnish regions.
Labour productivity grew on average at the rapid 5 per cent annual rate in the Finnish manufacturing industry from 1975 to 2003. The labour productivity growth was broad-based in the 1970s and 1980s with contributions from multi-factor productivity gains in the paper and metal industries dominating. In the 1990s productivity growth was much more concentrated to the electronic industry. The level of labour productivity in Finnish manufacturing matched that of the US by the end of the second millennium. Labour costs and unit labour costs remained at only three quarters of the US level, although real hourly compensation increased steadily. After 1995 the manufacturing industry constituted a quarter of the Finnish economy but contributed a third of overall economic growth.
According to CSC forecasts exports will be the most dynamic GDP component in 2017-2018, taking full advantage of the favourable global trade momentum. In 2018 exports will be 15,0% higher than pre-crisis levels and equal to 32,5% of GDP.
What structural factors sustained the Italian export performance?
Good news for the Spanish furniture industry, as figures for 2013 reveal an encouraging trends towards the increase of exports ((+15.4%) and diversification of markets. Adjusting OpenMP PageRank : SHORT REPORT / NOTESSubhajit Sahu
For massive graphs that fit in RAM, but not in GPU memory, it is possible to take
advantage of a shared memory system with multiple CPUs, each with multiple cores, to
accelerate pagerank computation. If the NUMA architecture of the system is properly taken
into account with good vertex partitioning, the speedup can be significant. To take steps in
this direction, experiments are conducted to implement pagerank in OpenMP using two
different approaches, uniform and hybrid. The uniform approach runs all primitives required
for pagerank in OpenMP mode (with multiple threads). On the other hand, the hybrid
approach runs certain primitives in sequential mode (i.e., sumAt, multiply).

M Capital Group (“MCG”) expects to see demand and the changing evolution of supply, facilitated through institutional investment rotation out of offices and into work from home (“WFH”), while the ever-expanding need for data storage as global internet usage expands, with experts predicting 5.3 billion users by 2023. These market factors will be underpinned by technological changes, such as progressing cloud services and edge sites, allowing the industry to see strong expected annual growth of 13% over the next 4 years.
Whilst competitive headwinds remain, represented through the recent second bankruptcy filing of Sungard, which blames “COVID-19 and other macroeconomic trends including delayed customer spending decisions, insourcing and reductions in IT spending, energy inflation and reduction in demand for certain services”, the industry has seen key adjustments, where MCG believes that engineering cost management and technological innovation will be paramount to success.
MCG reports that the more favorable market conditions expected over the next few years, helped by the winding down of pandemic restrictions and a hybrid working environment will be driving market momentum forward. The continuous injection of capital by alternative investment firms, as well as the growing infrastructural investment from cloud service providers and social media companies, whose revenues are expected to grow over 3.6x larger by value in 2026, will likely help propel center provision and innovation. These factors paint a promising picture for the industry players that offset rising input costs and adapt to new technologies.
According to M Capital Group: “Specifically, the long-term cost-saving opportunities available from the rise of remote managing will likely aid value growth for the industry. Through margin optimization and further availability of capital for reinvestment, strong players will maintain their competitive foothold, while weaker players exit the market to balance supply and demand.”
Techniques to optimize the pagerank algorithm usually fall in two categories. One is to try reducing the work per iteration, and the other is to try reducing the number of iterations. These goals are often at odds with one another. Skipping computation on vertices which have already converged has the potential to save iteration time. Skipping in-identical vertices, with the same in-links, helps reduce duplicate computations and thus could help reduce iteration time. Road networks often have chains which can be short-circuited before pagerank computation to improve performance. Final ranks of chain nodes can be easily calculated. This could reduce both the iteration time, and the number of iterations. If a graph has no dangling nodes, pagerank of each strongly connected component can be computed in topological order. This could help reduce the iteration time, no. of iterations, and also enable multi-iteration concurrency in pagerank computation. The combination of all of the above methods is the STICD algorithm. [sticd] For dynamic graphs, unchanged components whose ranks are unaffected can be skipped altogether.

THE EUROPEAN OFFICE
FURNITURE INDUSTRY
IN THE WORLD SCENARIO
he office furniture industry is a
mature sector. World produc-
tion value of office furniture
reached about Eur 44 billion in
2016 (preliminary figures), repre-
senting around 12% of total world
furniture production.
Asia and Pacific is the main manu-
facturing area with a 47% share of
world office furniture production, fol-
lowed by North America, which
accounts for 28%. Europe ranks
third with an incidence of 19% on
worldwide production. The other
geographical areas hold marginal
shares.
Today, world office furniture produc-
tion value is 16% higher than ten
years ago. Obviously, the develop-
ment is the result of different per-
formances across regions. Asia and
Pacific outperformed the other
areas and almost doubled the out-
put. Middle East and Africa follow

Europe registered negative per-
formances. At a global level, it is evi-
dent the predominant role of China,
which in 2010 overtook the United
States as world’s leading office fur-
niture manufacturer. Currently,
Chinese production exceeds Eur
13.5 billion, representing 31% of the
world office furniture output.
A CLOSER LOOK AT EUROPE
According to preliminary figures,
office furniture production in Europe
continued its slow recovery,
increasing by about +2% in 2016 to
a total value of Eur 8.4 billion.
Germany and Sweden pushed the
growth performing over the
European average, while the United
Kingdom dropped significantly.
Production trend continued to be
weak in Southern Europe with neg-
ative performance for Italy and
Portugal and slow improvements for
Spain and Greece.
The ‘new’ European member coun-
tries grew consistently over the
European average and registered
+6.5% compared to the previous
year. Poland and the Czech
Republic are the largest manufac-
turing countries and they continued
to expand also in 2016.
The official trade figures released by

EUROPEAN MANUFACTURING
PULSE
The European office furniture sector
employs a total workforce of about
73,000. Around 55,000 are
employed in Western European
countries while the remaining
(18,000) in Central-Eastern Europe.
A trend reversal has been regis-
tered in 2015 after years of slow-
down. In parallel with the rebound in
employment, the percentage of total
turnover destined for investments
turned to growth in 2015. On aver-
age, European office furniture man-
ufacturers dedicated 5% of turnover
to investment activities. About 1%
invested in promotion, roughly 2% in
