Do you feel that some sins in your past or present are so terrible that they can’t be forgiven or that you are unwor-thy to serve God? How does Rahab’s story encourage you? What was the emotional state of the people in Jericho? (Josh. 2:9, 11; 6:1) How did this confirm God’s promises in Deut. l:21, 29–31? Read carefully Joshua 2:9–13. What did Rahab know about Israel's history? How long before had the Red Sea been crossed? (Ex. l4). How long before had Sihon and Og been conquered? (Deut. 2:26-3:11) What did Rahab specifically say she believed about the God of Israel? What is impressive about her faith? Could anyone else in Jericho have come to the same conclusions? Why didn't they? How is grace key to understanding Joshua 2? These and other questions are addressed in this study in Joshua.

The story teaches about having faith in God's power to overcome obstacles.

1. The Door to the Kingdom of Allah
In the days of the prophet Nuh (peace be upon him), people on earth were evil. Allah decided to bring
judgment over the earth to restore righteousness. But Nuh (pbuh) found Allah’s favour and Allah
instructed him to build a ship to save his family and the animals from the floodwaters, Allah was
bringing on the earth. The ship had the form of a huge box with a prominent door in one side. Every
man, woman and animal that was spared from Allah’s wrath went through this door and Allah himself
shut it behind them. Then came the big flood.
Our honorable father and friend of Allah Ibrahim (pbuh) pleaded Allah for the soul of his dear nephew
Lot. Lot was living in a city full of evil people, no one in it was found righteous and Allah had decided to
destroy the city Sodom with all the peoples by raining burning sulfur from heaven. But Allah showed
mercy upon the cousin of Ibrahim (pbuh) and sent two Angels to save him and his family. As the Angels
were his guests, the corrupted peoples from the city came to his door and urged him to give the guests
out to fornicate with them. As the situation got more and more dangerous and they were moving
forward to break down the door, the Angels pulled Lot back inside, closed the door and struck the
peoples with blindness, so that they couldn’t find the door.
In the days of Allah’s servant Musa (pbuh), his peoples suffered as slaves in Egypt. But Allah the
Almighty decided to free them and bring his judgment on the Egyptians. Musa (pbuh) was called to
speak to Pharaoh of Egypt: “Let my people go!” But Pharaoh refused and Allah struck the Egyptians
with ten plagues. Allah brought judgment on crops, livestock and peoples. The tenth and most severe
plague was that Allah took the lives of all firstborn of every house and every family. But to Musa (pbuh)
gave he the message, that every family, who sacrificed a pure lamb and put some of the blood at the
sides and tops of the door-frames would be spared. And the peoples did so and placed the sign on their
doors. At midnight, Allah struck down all firstborn of the land, but when he saw the sign of blood on
the door, that a family had sacrificed already a pure lamb, Allah passed over that house and spared the
peoples from his judgment.
Our honorable prophet Musa (pbuh) led the people of Allah through the divided sea out of Egypt and
out of slavery. This happened 430 years after they had come into the land of Egypt. It was through our
beloved prophet Yusuf (pbuh), the son of Jakob (pbuh), the son of Isaak (pbuh), the son of Ibrahim
(pbuh). Yusuf (pbuh) was the favorite child of his father and was given an extraordinary richly
ornamented robe. Out of jealousy he was sold to slave traders by his own brothers. They toke his robe
and dipped it in the blood of a slaughtered goat and presented it to his father Jakob (pbuh), who
thought he was dead. But Allah the Almighty and most compassionate in his grace made Yusuf (pbuh)
to a powerful leader in Egypt who saved his unfaithful brothers from famine and became a blessing for
his family. The many unfaithful were saved through the suffering of the one.
Now 430 years later, prophet Musa (pbuh) carried the bones of Yusuf (pbuh), out of Egypt, as he
received from Allah the instructions to build a place of worship for Allah’s people: a tent. This tent was
the place, where people gathered to worship Allah. The entrance was covered by an extraordinary
richly ornamented curtain or door. Allah instructed Musa (pbuh) to offer pure animals in front of this
curtain and sprinkle the curtain with blood, when his people had broken Allah’s righteous
commandments and repented from their sin.
2. Many years later, King Salomon (pbuh), the son of King David (pbuh), built in Jerusalem the magnificent
temple as the new place of worship of Allah. The temple hat a very similar architecture to the tent of
worship and the door to the most holy place was covered by an extraordinary and richly ornamented
curtain. Nobody could easily enter the presence of Allah in this most holy place.
But this temple was destroyed by oppressors and years later built again, and again destroyed by
oppressors and built again. People were looking forward to the coming of a Messiah, the ‘Promised
One’, who would free them from foreign oppression. They didn’t know that the one to come would
build up a kingdom not from this world: The Kingdom of Heaven. He did not come as a political ruler to
free their nation. He came in his own glory for all nations and peoples on earth to build a spiritual
kingdom. Before him the prophet Yahya (pbuh) called out in the desert: “repent, for the Kingdom of
Heaven is near”. And as the promised one came: Isa al Masih (his peace be upon us) Yahya (pbuh)
called out: “Look, the Lamb of Allah, who takes away the sin of the world!” And like a lamb, he was
slain by Allah as a sacrifice. He lived an extraordinary life and in the moment he died, the curtain in the
temple tore apart and left the door to the most holy place open. Isa al Masih (hpbuu) is the door to the
Kingdom of Heaven and his body is the curtain that was destroyed to open the way to Allah for the
sinners. Isa al Masih (hpbuu) said himself: “I am the door whoever enters through me will be saved”.
This is why we address Allah in the Kingdom of Heaven directly through the door Isa al Masih, by
praying to Allah in the authority of Isa al Masih.
Every man and woman, who enters the Kingdom of Allah through this door - Isa Al-Masih (hpbuu)- is
spared from the wrath of Allah as Nuh (pbuh) was saved from the flood. But many are struck with
blindness and do not find this door but remain in their own corruptness as the people of the evil city
Sodom. He is the pure sacrifice that was offered in our place, that by the sign of his blood, Allah will
spare our souls at the last Day of Judgment like he spared his people in Egypt, who put the sign of the
sacrifice at their door-frames. The many unfaithful can be saved through the suffering of the one, like
the many unfaithful brothers of Yusuf (pbuh) were saved through his suffering caused by Allah.
Isa al Masih is the door to the kingdom of heaven, the most important door, but there is more to tell:
His dead body was laid into a stone cave, a tomb. And its door was closed with a heavy stone. Guards
were placed besides the door to make sure, nobody would steal his body. But an angel of Allah came
down and opened the cave and by his appearance the guards trembled and fell down like dead. And
Allah raised Isa (hpbuu) up from the dead. As his friends came to visit the tomb, they witnessed, that
the door was open, the tomb was empty and the angel told them that Isa (hpbuu) was alive. Then they
saw him and could touch him and many more witnessed that he had come back to life. Before their
eyes, he was taken up to heaven and he will come back in glory at the last Day of Judgment. Now they
understood, what Isa al Masih (hpbuu) meant, when he said: “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it
again in three days”. He spoke of his body, which was destroyed and raised again within three days and
had become the new everlasting temple, through whom all true worship of Allah is now directed.
