The North Yungas Road in Bolivia, also known as the Death Road, is a dangerous 56 kilometer road connecting La Paz to Coroico that was named the most dangerous road in the world in 1995. It ascends rapidly from La Paz to over 4,650 meters and has steep drops along narrow paths without guardrails, resulting in 200-300 deaths per year. While dangerous, it became a tourist attraction in the 1990s drawing thrillseekers, especially mountain bikers looking for a 64 kilometer stretch of continuous downhill riding.
