God created the world "in the beginning" out of nothing according to Genesis. God created the world for both his own glory and for mankind. Genesis also says that God saw all he had created was "very good." While the world is good, it is not to be feared, worshiped, or treated as an idol. Only God is to be worshiped and nothing in the world should take precedence over God. The biblical writers were less concerned with how the world came to be than with why we are here and how we can find purpose and fulfillment through God.
