THE BOY WITHOUT EYES
A mother had two children. They went to ask for alms, they had nothing. She gave them
a meal and asked them if they wanted to both eat from the same bowl or take their own.
farnel. The oldest said it was better for everyone to take their own food. So it was. On
the way, the younger brother asked his brother if it was better for each of them to eat
their meal or eat one first and then the other. The oldest said it was better this way. So,
it was. On the first day, they both ate the youngest's food. On the second day, it was
time for lunch, the youngest said:
– Oh brother, shall we eat now?
The oldest replied:
– No, it's still early. Then he would eat and the youngest wouldn't eat anything. At
dinner, the same; Finally, the younger brother was already so hungry that he asked him
again for at least one bit of bread. The oldest said to him: – If you let me take one eye,
I’ll give it to you. The youngest, as he was desperately hungry, forced himself to have
one eye removed. But the older brother He took out his eye but did not give him the
piece of bread. The youngest asked him again for at least half. The brother said to him:
– Well, I'll only give you half if you let me take the other eye. Then the eldest went
away and left his brother there alone and helpless. The boy, seeing himself blind, let
himself wander around to see if he could find someone to guide him along the way. He
arrived below a mountain and heard the water of a river singing, and he stopped there
saying to himself:
– Nothing, I can't go from here, because, as nothing came, I could jump into the river
and drown. He knew it was night and he felt around and found a tree and shook it, and
heard the songs singing. leaves and then climbed up and stayed there in that tree. Next
to the tree was a bridge, where the devil used to go with the witches to hold court. After
a while they all came, as is customary, and were asking each other what they had done.
in that day. One of them responded to the demon who had cut off the waters of the
capital of France, where after three days everything would die from thirst. The demon
asked her what she had done to cut off those waters. She says: – I, in the space of four

to five leagues, where the water passes, enchanted a snake and put it in the water canal.
water, where the snake is trapped head and tail inside a ring, and the water is trapped in
the middle of the snake's coil. snake. The demon asked: – So there will be no way to
release this water to the city again? The witch said:
– There is, but I won’t tell anyone. The demon said:
– So, not even me? The witch replied:
– Yes, to you, as master. The remedy is for those who dare to go there with a golden
spear and take off the ring. which is inside the snake without hurting it; the snake runs
towards the mountain, like the water that comes from the spring. The boy, who was on
top of the tree, learned all this. Another witch said:
– I also bewitched the king of Italy, who is blinded by everyone the limbs of the body
that cannot move anywhere. And the entire royal family dies from this affliction. The
demon asked:
– So, what did you do to him to make him look like that? The witch replied:
– I sewed the eyes of a frog, with the same thread I held the frog together, hands and
feet and everything, and I put it under the bed of His Majesty. The demon asked:
– So, there will be no medicine to give this king health again? The witch said:
– There are those who go from here to Italy to the king's garden, which has a quince tree
on top of a fountain, and if there are those who harvest the first ranco (pluck, branch),
who makes an S on top of the fountain, and sharpens its spear-shaped tip, and use it to
catch a blue fish that is walking around inside the tank, and melt it in a jar that didn't
take anything, and lifting the left foot from the king's bed and taking out the frog that is
stuck underneath, and unseeing its eyes and untying it so that the frog doesn't get hurt,
and then laying the frog in the garden. Once the fish is melted, then give the king some
ointment, and soon the king will have his health, but the king will certainly die because
I won't tell anyone about it. The boy, who was up in the tree listening, learned
everything. Then another witch said to the demon:
– And you, what did you do? The demon replied:
3
– I have already done a wonderful work, I have already made one brother take his eyes
off the other; It's also been three days since I have made some well-married couples get
along badly. The witch asked him:
– So, what did you do for one brother to take his eyes off the other?
The demon replied:
– I warned him not to give the youngest a bit of bread without taking his eyes off him.
The witch asked:
– So, there is no way for this boy to have his sight back? The demon said:
– Yes, but how will he know if I don’t tell anyone? The witch said:
– But you must tell it to us, as we told you everything. The demon then said:
– There is a tree nearby, cutting off three leaves and spitting three times, before dawn,
and trampling these leaves in your hand, with the juice of the leaf and spit from your
mouth, anointing the chapels of your eyes (eyelids), then you have natural vision.
– And for happily married couples to get along again like they used to? The demon
replied:
– Going to a main church, collecting a jug of holy water from the baptism font,
collecting some herbs which Christians call them rosemary. The witch asked:
– So, what did you do to make these married people get into trouble? The demon
replied:
– Here at the top of this hill there were some happily married people, and I went to get
under the bed. The man, when he came in from the outside, he looked under the bed and
saw me there and thought I was a man and immediately began to mistreat the woman
with bad words. So, he started to feel bad, thinking that the woman was friendly. The
woman did nothing but cry and say that she couldn't do such a thing. The witch asked:
– So, there won’t be any medicine for them to get well again? The demon replied:
– Yes, so haven’t I told you that I’m going to get the jug of holy water from the house in
Cruz, when you see me there, that I run away, and so they get along again? In this, the
boy, who was on top of the tree, learned everything; then he picked up the leaves of the
tree, which was the where he was, and he did what the devil said. Then he was soon in
4
sight. As soon as it was daylight, he went down the tree and immediately tried to look
for the couple's house. He did everything the devil said and they were fine. From there
he went to France and disenchanted the snake and gave water to the city. The King of
France immediately gave him a portion of money. Then he went to Italy and also did
what the witch had said to the devil. When the fish was melted, the boy spoke to the
king and said:
– Royal Sir, have the kindness to send all the doctors away, as Your Royal Majesty still
has them today. You'll have to go visit the house. The king did so. Then the boy rubbed
him with fish oil and the king was immediately healed. After the king found himself
well, he took the boy to the palace and then married the king's daughter. The king died
and he became master of the kingdom. In this, the older brother was asking for the
world; He went from land to land until he gave the kingdom from his brother, but
without knowing it. One day the king and the queen were at the window and saw that
man and knew he was his brother and said to the sentry who was at the palace door:
– O sentry, arrest that man for me and bring him here before me. At this moment the
king went away, dressed in his insignia as king, and sat on the throne. The sentry took
the prisoner to the king's presence. Then the king began to ask the man what land he
was from. The prisoner didn't know what he was going to say. After all, he told his life
there. Then the king asked him:
– What happened to your mother? He said:
– I don't know, because since I left home I haven't been back there.
– And what happened to your brother?
– So, Your Majesty knew my brother? The king said yes and asked him why he had
taken his eyes. The brother started to deny it. The king then told him that he knew it had
been the devil's temptation and that he it was his brother. Afterwards he stayed in the
palace with the king, who forgave him.

When the fish was melted, the boy spoke to the king and said: – Royal Sir, have the kindness to send all the doctors away, as Your Royal Majesty still has them today. You'll have to go visit the house. The king did so. Then the boy rubbed him with fish oil and the king was immediately healed. After the king found himself well, he took the boy to the palace and then married the king's daughter. The king died and he became master of the kingdom. In this, the older brother was asking for the world; He went from land to land until he gave the kingdom from his brother, but without knowing it. One day the king and the queen were at the window and saw that man and knew he was his brother and said to the sentry who was at the palace door: – O sentry, arrest that man for me and bring him here before me. At this moment the king went away, dressed in his insignia as king, and sat on the throne. The sentry took the prisoner to the king's presence. Then the king began to ask the man what land he was from. The prisoner didn't know what he was going to say. After all, he told his life there. Then the king asked him: – What happened to your mother? He said: – I don't know, because since I left home I haven't been back there. – And what happened to your brother? – So, Your Majesty knew my brother? The king said yes and asked him why he had taken his eyes. The brother started to deny it. The king then told him that he knew it had been the devil's temptation and that he it was his brother. Afterwards he stayed in the palace with the king, who forgave him. END
