The Bell-LaPadula Model was created by the US government to preserve confidentiality and secure information on mainframe systems with multiple users. It introduced a multilevel security system where users with different clearance levels could access the same system, processing different classified information securely and maintaining system security. The model established a mathematically proven concept for compartmentalizing information by user that is still used today to securely share systems across clearance levels.
