Autumn had arrived, as indicated by the senses. The narrator heard leaves crunching underfoot and children laughing, signaling the changing season. Various smells filled the air, from baking apple pie to burning leaves on a fire. The ground and trees were decorated with brilliant red and golden leaves, and squirrels searched for acorns. Different tastes came to mind as well, from freshly picked apples to warm cider. A crisp gust of wind stung the narrator's face and dead leaves fell like rain, confirming through sight, sound, smell, taste and feeling that autumn had come.
