Loji Kuasa Nuklear Ikata ialah reaktor nuklear yang dibina berdekatan dengan laut yang

Tenaga nuklear, kadangkala disebut tenaga atom, ialah sejenis tenaga yang "mengikat"
nukleus sesebuah atom. Tenaga ini boleh dibebaskan melalui tindakbalas nuklear seperti
pereputan radioaktif serta pembelahan atau pelakuran nuklear. Selain itu, ia juga merujuk kepada
teknologi atau industri tenaga nuklear yang membolehkan penjanaan tenaga sekunder seperti
tenaga elektrik. Tenaga nuklear ini dihasilkan dari reaksi nuklear (iaitu bukan letupan) terkawal.
Loji komersial menggunakan reaksi pembelahan nuklear untuk menghasilkan elektrik. Reaktor
utiliti elektrik memanaskan air untuk menghasilkan wap, yang kemudian digunakan untuk
menghasilkan tenaga elektrik.

Pada tahun 2005, tenaga nuklear membekalkan 6,3% tenaga dunia dan 15% kuasa elektrik dunia.
Amerika Syarikat, Perancis, dan Jepun menggunakan 56,5% elektrik yang dihasilkan oleh loji
nuklear. Pada tahun 2007, IAEA melaporkan terdapat 439 reaktor nuklear di dunia yang
beroperasi di 31 negara.
Amerika Syarikat menghasilkan paling banyak tenaga nuklear, dengan tenaga nuklear
membekalkan 19% tenaga elektrik yang ia gunakan, sementara Perancis menghasilkan peratusan
tertinggi tenaga elektrik dari reaktor nuklear iaitu sebanyak 80% pada 2006. Di Kesatuan
Eropah, tenaga nuklear membekalkan 30% tenaga elektrik. Dasar tenaga nuklear berbeza antara
negara-negara Kesatuan Eropah, dan sesetengah negara seperti Austria, Estonia, dan Ireland,
tidak mempunyai stesyen tenaga nuklear aktif. Sebagai perbandingan, Perancis memiliki banyak
loji nuklear, dengan 16 stesen pelbagai unit yang digunakan ketika ini.
Di AS, walaupun industri tenaga eletrik daripada arang batu dan gas diramalkan bernilai $85
bilion menjelang 2013, janakuasa tenaga nuklear dianggarkan bernilai $18 bilion.
Kebanyakan kapal laut tentera dan beberapa kapal awam (seperti kapal pemecah ais)
menggunakan pendorong marin nuklear, suatu bentuk pendorong nuklear. Beberapa kenderaan
angkasa telah dilancarkan dengan menggunakan reaktor nuklear seperti RORSAT kepunyaan
Soviet dan SNAP-10A kepunyaan Amerika.
Penyelidikan antarabangsa terus dibuat untuk penambahbaikan dalam teknologi tenaga nuklear
seperti dalam aspek keselamatan loji, penggunaan pelakuran nuklear, dan kegunaan tambahan
dalam proses pemanasan seperti pengeluaran hidrogen, penyulingan air laut, dan untuk
digunakan dalam sistem pemanas di sesuatu daerah.
