- 1. HOLLY CAMERON YR 11 BRUCE DAWE GLOGSTER POSTER REFLECTION TELEVISTAS
- 2. SYMBOLS AND PICTURES. In my glogster I used numerous pictures from Google images and photobucket. 4 of my images focus on the romantic story of a young man and women I have used the image of an eye with a love heart as the pupil to show love as first sight- the 1st and 2 nd verses. An image of 2 young children walking on a path holding hands to show the development of love as it grows from a young child stage to a more serious adult stage- the 3 rd and 4 th verse. The next image I have used, is the image of a silhouetted couple in an argument to relate to the 5 th verse. For the 6 th and 7 th verse I used images of a person begging to make up for what they have done wrong and an image of the taking of vows to show that this will be always and forever. This relates that consumerism and television will always and forever be a big part of our lives, which is one matter Bruce has touched on in this poem Televistas. I have arranged these images down the right hand side of the poster to show it as a time lime how this love blossoms.
- 3. Continued …. I have embedded a Music video and lyrics into my glog I have chosen bright colours and style for this text to grab peoples attention to this feature, this is how you may see some advertisements to grab peoples attention on TV adds or other advertisements, I have also added an image of Bugs Bunny and added a Youtube video clip of an episode featuring Marvin the Martian and Bugs as a little comic relief because comedy is also a big part of television because everyone loves to laugh. I have added the poem Televistas to my poster so people will understand what all these images relate to which the big theme for this poem and many others is CONSUMERISM.
- 4. Other elements…. More to life. This song is sung by Stacie Orrico. It relates to how superficial our world has become. She tells a story to how consumer driven lifestyle which many people choose to live like this. She tells this by using lyrics “ there's got to be more to life, than chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me.” that is all that these materialistic things are in our world, nothing but temporary highs. These things make us feel good when they are new but before long they just become junk. There must be more to life than just consumerism and materialism, there has to be something we are missing out on. In the first line she sings “ I’ve got it all but I feel so deprived.’ this tells us how material goods will never fully satisfy us. This relates to Bruce Dawe because the main themes and concerns of his poems are all about consumerism and how it is running our lives. We are missing out on so much more with these goods, we can probably get the same happiness from another person in stead of just a new pair of shoes or a new car and with the emotion that comes from that person it will mean so much more.
- 5. In conclusion… Bruce Dawe’s poem televista’s brings forward how consumerism is a major part of our life and it will always will be unless we change our ways. Even though this poem was written around the 1960’s it still has a major message for us today still 40+ years later. Id like to refer to this poem by an unknown author called an interview with God it says in this poem “To learn that a rich person is not one who has the most, but is one who needs the least.” this is so true and I believe it is also true the saying that money will not bring you happiness. Some of the greatest feeling God has ever given us don’t come from something that can be made or bought. In Alan Jackson song “ Where were you?” is a song dedicated to September 11, in the last line of the song he sings “Faith, Hope and Love, are some good things he gave us But the greatest is love.”

Conclusion continued… this all relates to Bruce Dawe’s poem because our lives are not an American TV show they are something that should be cherished and I think he was getting us to realize that material goods and consumerism isn’t a part of that. Our lives are a gift from God we should live them happily and try to be less consumer driven because them things come and go but our lives, family and emotions are forever so treasure them because they are worth more than shoes, cars and clothes. Material goods aren't forever, our life and how we choose to live it is. Another quote from the Interview With God poem says “ That they lose their health to make money and then lose their money to restore their health ” we don’t have to have everything we want just to be happy. I think that is really what Bruce Dawe was sending across in his poem Televista’s to not live our lives as if it were a TV show because that’s not real. This is so live it and love it!
