Housing For All Colombia addresses the severe housing shortage in Colombia by enabling sustainable and scalable systems to deliver affordable housing solutions to vulnerable populations. It fosters partnerships between citizen groups and private sector companies in home improvement. Since 2006, it has partnered citizen groups with Grupo Corona, a home improvement company, to provide affordable solutions reaching over 28,000 homes in 6 cities. It is working to create a Home Improvement Financial Entity to provide over $100 million in integrated financial products and technical assistance to scale up and help the 2.5 million people in need of housing upgrades.
Housing provides shelter and should include surrounding community facilities. It has broadened from just physical structures to human settlements and residential environments that support physical and mental health. Healthful housing provides protection from disease and hazards while allowing personal and community development. Governments should establish minimum housing standards and help low-income families access financing to meet housing goals. Overcrowding can negatively impact health and is defined based on rooms and floor space per person. A variety of physical, economic and social indicators measure housing quality and impacts.

During the second half of the twentieth century, Colombian society underwent a number of deep transformations in its population distribution, economy, and social behaviour. World events (war and economic movements) that had taken place during the previous decades made it necessary to introduce policies involving industrialisation, based on import substitution, an approach which was officially adopted into Colombian policies under the orientation and sponsorship of the Colombian Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL).

This document discusses issues related to technology and housing. It notes that technology can distract from making real changes and hearing important issues. It discusses how single room occupancy housing was demolished in the 1950s-1990s, displacing many poor people. It questions where food comes from and who cares for workers. It calls for telling different stories of success focused on care, respect, rights and responsibilities rather than acquisition and luxury.
This document describes a company called ECOnomic Housing that provides economic and ecologic housing solutions for Angola. It discusses their services including procurement, engineering, construction management. It then outlines their smart building concept using a modular steel frame that requires no cement or welding. Several designs for houses in Angola are presented, including a 110m2 two-story design and designs for navy housing that are adaptable and relocatable. Their services for housing projects and expertise in area development such as urban planning, energy, and infrastructure are also summarized.
The document summarizes the process of urbanization in 19th century Britain. As the population rapidly grew in cities due to the Industrial Revolution, overcrowding and unsanitary conditions led to widespread disease outbreaks. Millions lived in cramped, dark back-to-back houses with no running water or sewers. Reformers like Edwin Chadwick brought attention to the public health crisis and its link to high death rates. Laws were passed to build modern sewage systems and improve living standards in cities. By the early 20th century, urbanization was complete and living conditions had significantly improved through these reforms.
The document outlines standards and guidelines for housing according to the WHO. It defines housing and residential environment and discusses the purpose of housing. It then details 15 specific standards for housing in India as outlined by the WHO in 1947, including standards for site selection, flooring, wall thickness, roof height, floor area, ventilation, lighting, kitchen, latrines, bathing facilities, and water supply. It also discusses the effects of substandard housing and overcrowding on health as well as accepted standards for room occupancy.
This document discusses housing market failure in the UK. It identifies several root causes of market failure, including a chronic imbalance between housing demand and supply, empty housing despite excess demand, shortages of affordable homes, imperfect information, and external costs of new home construction. Both negative externalities like congestion and noise, as well as positive externalities like employment and improved health, are associated with new housing developments. Government policies aim to address market failures and increase housing supply through various means like subsidizing affordable housing and reducing planning regulations.
Slums are densely populated, run-down areas where impoverished people live in makeshift shelters that lack basic services. Over 1 billion people worldwide live in slums, with major slums found in Mumbai, Rio de Janeiro, Kibera, and Jakarta. Living conditions in slums are often characterized by poor structural housing, insufficient living space, lack of secure tenure, and inadequate access to water, sanitation, and healthcare. The growth of slums is due to issues like lack of affordable housing, economic hardship, overpopulation, and inequality between the wealthy and poor.
This document discusses economic systems and the history of work. It outlines the Agricultural Revolution, Industrial Revolution, and Information Revolution. It then defines and provides examples of capitalism, socialism, and communism as economic systems. The document also mentions telecommuting and includes links to clips from TV shows Reno 911 and COPS to analyze mass media and popular culture depictions of work.
The document summarizes information about a construction company called TH. CHANTZIS & CO O.E. It was founded in 2001 and specializes in building luxury summer homes. It has received awards for its development called KTIMA CHANTZI. The document then provides details about the types of homes available for purchase at KTIMA CHANTZI and their prices and amenities. It concludes by outlining a proposed expansion of the development that would include building additional luxury homes that could be rented on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
- The document promotes the purchase of housing units at Heritage Homes Trece Martires, a residential community located in Cavite, Philippines.
- It offers three house models ranging from 50-60 square meters with 3 bedrooms and amenities like clubhouse, pools, and parks.
- Housing units can be purchased through cash, in-house financing over 2-10 years, or Pag-Ibig and bank loans over 5-25 years. Buyers are encouraged to purchase soon to take advantage of discounts and availability.

The document discusses how Persian kings controlled and governed their vast empire. It explains that Cyrus the Great first unified the Persian lands and expanded the empire. The empire was then ruled through a system of local governance. Satraps (governors) were appointed to collect taxes and maintain security in their provinces. Inspectors would visit provinces periodically to oversee the satraps. This system allowed for local autonomy while maintaining imperial control and stability. The empire was administered this way with few changes until the Achaemenid Empire fell.
This document discusses South Africa's housing shortage and proposes monolithic dome housing as a solution. It notes that South Africa's population is growing but there is inadequate housing, with millions living in shacks. Traditional brick and mortar construction is too slow to address the massive backlog. Monolithic domes can be built much faster, are more durable, and lower-cost than traditional housing methods. Entire villages have been rebuilt using domes after natural disasters. Domes may help alleviate South Africa's housing crisis if implemented on a large scale.

2. Colombia: the world's second
largest number of internally
displaced people
Source: European Commission Humanitarian Aid department (ECHO)
Susana Perez Diaz, information officer, European Commission/ECHO
Website: http://ec.europa.eu/echo/index_en.htm
Colombia is a country has suffered from one of the longest internal conflict
still present today. Guerrilla and paramilitary groups have been active since the
1960s; they have committed several attacks in most of its national territory and
with very high intensity during the 1990s, affecting in a negative and
significant manner most of its population. These attacks have varied in
intensity and geographical location during the years and hence provide .
sufficient variation to capture its effect on economic activity.
3. FROM THE COLOMBIAN NEWSPAPER “EL TIEMPO” (JULY 3, 2011)
http://www.eltiempo.com/Multimedia/especiales/restituciondetierras/
4. The Colombian conflict is one of the longest ongoing domestic confrontations in the
world surpassed in length only by the Israeli–Palestinian and the Indian–Pakistani
conflicts. There are three main irregular armed groups acting inside its borders.
Specifically, there are two guerrilla organizations known as the Revolutionary Armed
Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the National Liberation Army (ELN) both of which
even though originated in communist ideas in the early 1960s are now also involved in
drug producing and trafficking operations. The third group is a rightwing paramilitary
group known as the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC) founded almost
25 years ago and which is now under a peace process with the government. All three
groups, besides engaging in direct fight with the national army, also perpetrate
crimes against the civil population, private assets, and public infrastructure. To
finance themselves and try to get political power they kidnap both for extortive or
political reasons and engage in drug production and trafficking.
5. This has caused a huge migration of people fleeing the violence to the
principle urban areas, especially Bogota. Apart from huge numbers of
displaced persons every year, the lack of security affect home loans and
mortgages. Banks are reluctant to lend to newly arrived families or
single parent families and rental accommodation is limited and relatively
costly. The Colombian Government has no social housing development
policy.
6. UN Alert Of 1.6 Million Women
Displaced in Colombia Due to the
War
lunes, 08 de marzo de 2010
United Nations announced that almost 1.6 million women have been forced to abandon their
homes due to the armed conflict in Colombia. According to a UN report, the Colombian
Government quotes more than a million and a half women have fled their homes in distinct
regions of the country to avoid being recruited by armed groups or their children falling into
their net.
But violence is not only derived from the internal war
that affects Colombia, also discrimination, physical
assault, sexual abuse, psychological and verbal
abuse, economic dependency, exclusion and poverty
are some of the situations faced by these women.
"Many of them have no access to health and
effective family planning services and
quality, especially adolescents and youths," said the
UN report, which noted that about 500 women a
year die from preventable causes in Colombia during
pregnancy or childbirth.
7. Overall Plan
To build a gated, secure housing facility of 1000 new 2
and 3 bedroom homes for the underprivilaged, such as
displaced families and single parent families resulting
from violence in Colombia. The facility will also include
shops, common areas, a health center and a workshop
to provide employment opportunities to the
residents. The first installation will be built in Medellin
with others to follow in other Colombian cities as
funds become available.
9. Project aims
Provide low cost housing for the underprivilaged
Provide a secure living environment
Provide shops and services with reduced costs
Provide workshop for artesanal work
Provide training for employment or formation of small
businesses
Provide employment opportunities within the project for
residents
Provide health care and health training
