I had to complete an action project for my Gender and Pop Culture Class, and this is my action. I made a \'Zine (self made magazine) in order to expose people to the problems with advertisement of female athletes. Feel free to comment or express your opinions, but please be respectful. Thank you and I hope you enjoy it!

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Tech it up assignment 2
1.
2. I have been playing hockey for 5 years,
going on six. I started playing when I was in
fifth grade and hope to continue playing until
I graduate.
Ability is what you are capable of doing.
Motivation determines what you do.
Attitude determines how well you do it.
3. Hockey is the kind of sport that takes a lot
of physical as well as mental skill.
Sometimes your opponent may seem
bigger than you in size, but you end up
winning the mental battle.
“A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A
great hockey player plays where the puck is going
to be.” -Wayne Grezky
4. For the most part being a girl hasn’t overly affected my experience. Up until last year I had
played on all female teams. However, I am getting to the age where there are not as many
girls interested in playing. Therefore, it is sometimes difficult to form an all girls team.
Because of this, last year I had to play on a co-ed team which for the most part was a good
experience. However there are always going to be a few people who believe girls shouldn’t
play hockey.
“You’re never going to stop a hockey player
by hitting them over the head, you’ve got to
take the body.”
- Howie Meeker
5. Throughout the years hockey has taught me many useful things that
I will use throughout my life. It taught me the importance of trust and
teamwork, good sportsmanship, perseverance, and that quitting is
never the answer.
“When you pull on that jersey, you represent yourself
and your teammates. And the name on the front is a
hell of a lot more important than the one on the back.”
- Herb Brooks
6. “Is hockey hard? I don’t know you tell me. We need to have the
strength and power of a football player, the stamina of a marathon
runner, and the concentration of a brain surgeon. But we need to
put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold and
slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us. Oh
yeah, did I mention that this whole time we’re standing on blades
1/8 of an inch thick? Is ice hockey hard? I don’t know you tell me.
Next question.”
- Brendan Shanahan Remember the days where you would come to practice
fully dressed? The days where you would use pajamas
as under armour? The days where you would come to
the rink with your parents carrying your bag because it
was twice your size? The days where you still needed a
cone to stay on your skate and sometimes even that
wasn’t enough? Yeah those were the days. The days
where you first started falling in love with the sport. Its
crazy how far we’ve come since then isn’t it.
