You see, it’s more than just passing the ball.
The victory is the outcome of what happened backstage,
Because there’s a story behind the final call,
One that cannot be narrated on stage.
The hard and long hours that goes into every training session,
Learning and applying the techniques taught by the coaches,
Because as they say, “Practice leads to perfection”
The collaboration with team mates who turn to family as time encroaches,
A reminder that it will soon be time for action.
And there you are on set with all eyes on the crew,
The pressure that arises with the last half-time,
The screams, tears, cheers and hugs that overwhelms the venue
To celebrate your team mate’s assist that ended the overtime,
A win that reminds you of why you proudly wear that yellow, white and blue.
As we receive the trophy with handgrips,
You realize that irrelevant are our individual names,
That together we can overtake any battleships,
Because in the words of Michael Jordan, “talent wins games,
but team-work and intelligence wins championships.”
