Work
We’re not perfect, although some of us
act like we are!
Do you often find yourself apologizing
at your workplace for seemingly trivial
mistakes?
Are you at loggerheads with your boss,
can’t see eye-to-eye with other
colleagues and end up being blamed for something that has nothing to
do you? What can you do besides crib and complain?

Have a Healthy Conflict
Remember that conflicts are inevitable at
Focus on Business
the workplace.
But when your conflict is with someone
who is in a position of authority and can
affect your career you need to ask yourself
some questions. Is your job more important
or the fact that you want to win an argument
at any cost and boost your ego?
When you do want to bring something to your bosses notice, please
avoid storming into his office and saying the first thing that comes to
your mind. Stop, think, take a deep breath, rehearse what you want to
say and then step in. You will be better prepared and your anger and
rage would be under control. Remember the aim of a conflict should
not be about getting one up on each other, but instead to find a solution
amicably.
Be clear of your role
Your job needs to be well defined and role clearly demarcated for you
to be able to work productively and without any hesitation or doubt.
An undefined and vague role at the workplace always leads to
inefficiency and uncertainty. If for any reason your boss doesn’t
explain what is expected of you, you must ask. Ask questions until you
know precisely what’s expected of you.
2. Forge Positive Relationships
The golden rule for work is relationship,
relationship, relationship!
Since you spend anywhere between 8-10 hours a
day at work, it is important that you build a
positive and healthy relationship with your
colleagues and superiors.
Your work does speak volumes about you; but it’s
also important to have allies at the workplace who
have faith in your skills and abilities and speak well of you, thereby increasing your visibility to
the top management. So go ahead and get to know the people you work with.
Don’t be Vague at Work or Waffle
Waffling and indecisiveness at work should be avoided at all costs.
This will make you conspicuous for the wrong reasons.
Here’s a suggestion to help you avoid waffling.
When you are working on a particular problem try to stick to the main
subject and focus on the important part of the problem. This will
separate the wheat from the chaff and help you concentrate on the big
issues.
Accept Responsibility
If you have committed a mistake, own up to it. You must
take responsibility for your actions.
Remember the sooner you take onus, the sooner you will
be able to rectify your blunder.
Blaming another person does not help and will only give
rise to bitterness. And that’s something you should avoid
at all costs.
Keep in mind these short useful tips at work and
you are well on your way to success.
