WHAT ISSUES HAVE THE MAGAZINE
CAMPAIGNED ABOUT?
Giving the Homeless
sustainable living.
Helping the environment and
it's sustainability.
Evidence from 2018-2019
The advocacy of left wing
ideologies.
HAS THE COVER DESIGN OF THE
MAGAZINE REFLECTED THE CAMPAIGNS?
Evident in the previous examples, as well as this example, the magazine covers
clearly reflect what The Big Issue campaign for; done through specific
design choices. There is always a very noticeable coverline, with either
juxtaposed colours (often primary) or large 'in your face' fonts. The
outspokenness of the covers reflects how strongly they advocate a sense of
coherency between them and their readers – there are always key words and
often central images relating directly to what they campaign for, and some
examples include; "Join us take action", "Don't fear the racists, confront them,
stomp them out", and finally "Listen to my voice".
Moreover the layout almost always includes central images with either a
person, animal or creature looking directly into the camera – or an iconic
image to do with social or political issues. Often, iconography to do with the
UK is used or the entire country is shown in order to further push a sense of
unity.
